In this episode, Dr. Miura welcomed her former NP student, Dr. Ann Yang, whom she precepted for Dr. Yang’s women’s health rotation in NP school (Dr. Yang graduated right after this episode was recorded).

Dr. Yang is a graduate of the graduate entry program in nursing (GEPN) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa and was accepted into the family nurse practitioner (FNP) fellowship program at the University of California, Davis.

In this episode, Dr. Yang shared:

• What it’s like to attend a GEPN or accelerated DNP program
• When she started thinking about life after graduation and what helped her prepare
• Why she chose to pursue a fellowship program instead of a regular NP job
• How the selection process for the fellowship program went
• Advice for NP students on preparing for life after graduation

私はアメリカハワイ州でナースプラクティショナー（NP）をしています。元々は日本生まれ、日本育ちで、聖路加看護大学（現・聖路加国際大学）を出た後、東京の大学病院で勤務したのちに、アメリカでNPになるために25歳の時に渡米しました。元々帰国子女でもないのですが、色々な戦略法を使ってアメリカの大学院を首席で卒業することができました。最終学位としてはハワイ大学からDoctor of Nursing Practice (DNP・看護実践博士)を取っています。

現在ではハワイ州にあるコミュニティーヘルスセンターおよび日系クリニックにて産婦人科及びプライマリーケア領域の診療をしている反面、ハワイ大学のNP学生の実習指導もしています。また2024年にはアメリカNP学会からそれぞれの州で一人ずつ、臨床で優秀な功績を残したNPに送られるState Award for Excellenceを受賞し、またHawai’i Association of Professional Nursesから毎年ハワイ州で看護職として優れたリーダーに与えられるLeadership Awardも受賞しました🏆

Two organizations provide family nurse practitioner (FNP) certifications in the U.S.: the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Body (AANPCB) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).  

Deciding which organization you want to be certified as an FNP is a critical decision. In this episode, I will discuss the pros and cons of certifications from these two organizations and what to consider when making your decision.

私は日本で看護大学をでて、正看護師として働いてから25歳でアメリカでナースプラクティショナー（NP)になるために学生ビザを持って渡米しましたが、留学する前にちゃんと準備してよかったな、と思うことと、これはもっと準備するべきだったなと思うことがあります。

今となっては結果的にうまくいって無事アメリカでNPになれて、仕事を通して永住権も取得しましたが、きちんと準備していなくて危なかったなと思ったこともありました😨

この動画では実体験、また生徒さんの話をもとに留学前に必ず準備してほしい、3つのことについて話しています☝️

About ME:

こんにちは！🙋‍♀️私は三浦未喜です。

私はアメリカハワイ州でナースプラクティショナー（NP）をしています。元々は日本生まれ、日本育ちで、聖路加看護大学（現・聖路加国際大学）を出た後、東京の大学病院で勤務したのちに、アメリカでNPになるために25歳の時に渡米しました。元々帰国子女でもないのですが、色々な戦略法を使ってアメリカの大学院を首席で卒業することができました。最終学位としてはハワイ大学からDoctor of Nursing Practice (DNP・看護実践博士)を取っています。

現在ではハワイ州にあるコミュニティーヘルスセンターおよび日系クリニックにて産婦人科及びプライマリーケア領域の診療をしている反面、ハワイ大学のNP学生の実習指導もしています。また2024年にはアメリカNP学会からそれぞれの州で一人ずつ、臨床で優秀な功績を残したNPに送られるState Award for Excellenceを受賞し、またHawai’i Association of Professional Nursesから毎年ハワイ州で看護職として優れたリーダーに与えられるLeadership Awardも受賞しました🏆

This episode is about “From being a Korean immigrant to a national nurse practitioner leader🇰🇷/ How to become a leader as a non-native speaker.”

In this episode, I welcomed my deeply admired colleague, Dr. Sun Jones.

Dr. Jones is a family nurse practitioner (FNP) in Arizona. She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees from Arizona State University. Dr. Jones is an associate professor at the University of Phoenix and also practices as an NP at a family practice office.

Although she grew up in Korea and had to overcome the language barrier, she has been recognized as one of the distinguished clinicians and faculty members in the U.S. and received the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Fellowship award, which is one of the highest honors NPs can receive.

Dr. Jones holds multiple leadership roles, including Arizona State Liaison for the AANP and Executive Director/President of the Korean American Nurses Foundation.

Dr. Jones spoke about how she overcame the fear of the language barrier as an immigrant and built an outstanding NP career in the U.S.

About ME:

Hi I’m Miki Miura, DNP, APRN, FNP-C👋

I’m a family nurse practitioner (FNP) in Hawaii, USA.

I was born and raised in Japan🇯🇵. I moved to the U.S. to become an NP when I was 25 years old after working as a registered nurse in Japan✈️

English is my second language, and becoming an NP in the U.S. as a foreign-born international student wasn’t easy. But, I was able to achieve my dream as well as many dreams that I couldn’t even imagine before, which include being awarded the State Award for Excellence for the State of Hawaii by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2024🏆

My mission is to empower nurses from all over the world to achieve their dreams of building successful and fulfilling nurse practitioner careers✨

One of my mottoes is “WORK HARD, PLAY HARD” (which, by the way, is my favorite phrase I learned from American culture😄). While I see patients at two clinical practices, run an online coaching business, and do many other things, I surf three to four times a week🏄‍♀️ and go on a vacation every three to four months🏝️

This ideal work-life balance is possible for you….if you learn how to study/work smart!!!💪
