Spain – Authorities have dismantled an international network linked to illegal aesthetic clinics and the trafficking of unregulated medical products used in cosmetic treatments.
Three clandestine aesthetic clinics operating in Tarragona, Valencia, and Alicante have been shut down, along with an illegal storage facility for medicines located in Alicante.
The investigation also led to the seizure of large quantities of medical products, including more than 1,200 vials of botulinum toxin and over 380 syringes of hyaluronic acid. One person has been arrested and three others are under investigation.
According to investigators, the organization operated without professional qualifications or health authorization, providing aesthetic procedures using controlled medications outside any medical supervision. The group distributed these products across Spain, as well as to Lithuania and the United Kingdom.
The operation began in August 2025 after authorities detected an organized structure operating through digital platforms and social networks, advertising aesthetic treatments without medical credentials and using unregulated pharmaceuticals.
Key members of the network were based in Alicante, where they illegally obtained large volumes of medical products before distributing them to clandestine clinics across multiple locations.
Some of those involved carried out invasive cosmetic procedures without medical training, using substances that require strict clinical control and authorization. Authorities warned that this posed serious health risks due to the lack of safety standards and medical oversight.
During coordinated raids carried out on April 8 and 9, officers searched properties in Reus, Burjassot, and Pilar de la Horadada, where the illegal clinics and storage site were located in private homes.
Additional materials seized included hialuronidase, lidocaine, thousands of syringes and needles, packaging equipment, computers, documentation, and distribution supplies.
Officials stated that improper use of substances such as botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid outside approved medical settings can cause severe infections, adverse reactions, and permanent damage.
