A California man has been formally charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington. The White House, condemning political violence and the rhetoric it says inspired it.

In the aftermath of the shooting, new focus is turning to the agencies that secured the event. Both the secret service and TSA are under the department of homeland security, now operating more than 70 days without full funding, as emergency money runs low and lawmakers remain at odds over a path forward.
