The Democratic National Committee said Vice President Kamala Harris earned enough votes from delegates to secure the party’s nomination for president Friday. This came while her campaign announced that it raised $310 million last month.

In a change of course, the Secret Service said that local police in Pennsylvania should not be held responsible for security failures during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. New acting director Ronald Rowe characterized these oversights as “a failure” of his agency.

The Justice Department sued TikTok, accusing the company of violating a children’s online privacy law. The government said the social media platform failed to obtain parental consent to collect personal information from users under age 13.

The Biden administration officially recognized Venezuela’s opposition candidate Edmundo González as the winner of the presidential election. Three newly freed Americans are back on U.S. soil on Friday after a landmark prisoner exchange with Russia. President Joe Biden was at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland to greet them, and said the exchange came with “tough calls.”

Nearly one in 10 Americans has Type 2 diabetes, and globally, more than 25 percent of people have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), based on studies from the past ten years.

Both diseases are largely caused by eating excess sugar, namely glucose and fructose.

How do these sugars impact the body differently? In which foods are they silently lurking in high amounts?

The West and Russia completed their biggest prisoner swap since the end of the Cold War, releasing 26 individuals from seven countries. Russia released three U.S. citizens, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan.

The Israeli military said the head of Hamas’s military wing, Mohammed Deif, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on July 13. Deif is believed to be one of the masterminds of Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel.

Venezuela’s socialist leader Nicolás Maduro asked the United States to restart talks and lift oil sanctions. The request was made at the same time the United States is scrutinizing Venezuela’s presidential election and waiting for Maduro to release the tabulated results.

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered the eulogy at late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s funeral service, remembering her as a “strategic” lawmaker. Meanwhile, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance visited the southern border and criticized Harris’s handling of the border crisis.
