The West and Russia completed their biggest prisoner swap since the end of the Cold War on Thursday, releasing 26 individuals from seven countries. Russia released three U.S. citizens, including Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan.

A New York state appeals court rejected former President Donald Trump’s challenge to a gag order in his New York criminal case. This means Trump cannot comment publicly about individual prosecutors and others in the case until Justice Juan Merchan sentences him on Sept. 18.

The Israeli military said the head of Hamas‘s military wing, Mohammed Deif, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on July 13. Deif is believed to have been one of the masterminds of Hamas‘s Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel.

Communist regimes carry out intense political purges among their own ranks and select the cruelest of leaders, particularly when it comes to those who are purged simply for deviating on specific issues while otherwise being wholly loyal is difficult for many to understand the rationale behind the barbarity inflicted by communist parties upon their own cadres to the party and its leadership. One reason is that the communist specter, in its rebellion against the divine and humankind, possesses an instinctual fear that its doom is always around the corner. To reinforce itself, the specter needs individuals who have no regard for moral right and wrong. These individuals are identified by their brutality during mass killings, and their elevation to positions of party leadership enables the specter to ensure the perpetuation of its earthly tyranny. Another of its motives for killing is to recruit participants from general society, as was done during the Cultural Revolution in China. By committing murder and other crimes amid the chaos, these people acted as accomplices to the Chinese Communist Party’s savagery, and the most brutal perpetrators became the staunchest followers of the Party. Even today, many former Red Guards who committed assault and murder during the Cultural Revolution express no remorse for the events of their youth. Israel’s military confirmed the death of Hamas commander Mohammed Deif on Aug. 1. The IDF says he was responsible for planning and carrying out the October 7th terrorist attack on Israel. Israel says Deif was killed by an airstrike in Gaza last month. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been mostly silent about the reported assassination of a top Hamas leader in Iran.

The Department of Defense (DOD) has reached a plea deal with a trio of alleged 9/11 terror attackers. The DOD announced on July 31 a deal was made for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his two codefendants.

Biden is pushing forward with a bid to cancel billions more in student debt. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris secured an endorsement that carries weight in battleground states.
