The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Jan. 6 defendant Joseph Fischer on June 28. Mr. Fischer was a former police officer charged under an accounting reform law after he entered the U.S. Capitol for four minutes on Jan. 6, 2021. The case was being watched closely because the Supreme Court’s decision could affect hundreds of Jan. 6 prosecutions—including a related case against former President Donald Trump.

The high court also overturned a 1984 decision known as “Chevron” that has instructed lower courts to defer to federal agencies when laws passed by Congress are not crystal clear. The 40-year-old decision has been the basis for upholding thousands of regulations by dozens of federal agencies, but has long been a target of conservatives and business groups who argue that it grants too much power to the executive branch, or what some critics call the administrative state.

In a further decision, the justices decided that cities can enforce bans on homeless people sleeping outdoors, including in West Coast cities where shelter space is lacking. The decision reversed a ruling by a San Francisco-based appeals court that found outdoor sleeping bans amounted to cruel and unusual punishment.

A CNN poll taken after the first presidential debate showed former President Donald Trump outperforming President Joe Biden by 67 percent to 33. Immigration, abortion, and the economy were among the main topics the candidates highlighted in the high-stakes debate.

  • Can Alzheimer’s Brain Toxins Be Cleared by Core Nutrients, Deep Sleep, Qigong?

Is Alzheimer’s disease a result of toxins that trigger brain inflammation? Can nurturing brain lymphatic flow boost toxic clearance?

The body’s internal system of “drains and aqueducts,” the lymphatics, has been known for some time. Brain lymphatics, though, are a new discovery—and their role in defusing conditions like Alzheimer’s has only just started to be understood.

“If [tau particles] can’t get cleared from the system, they build up ... and become toxic,” says Dr. Gerald Lemole, retired professor of surgery at Thomas Jefferson University.

“They bundle up and kill nerve cells,” he adds, highlighting one scenario where blocked lymphatic flow could trigger brain inflammation and subsequently Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Lemole enlightened to the import of body lymphatics in the earliest days of heart-transplant surgery in America: When the first round of successful transplant patients all died within two years, his investigation found a failure of lymphatics to be the reason.

As such, Dr. Lemole looks on with interest as the healing potential of brain lymphatics further unfolds through research.

A University of Rochester study shows the freer movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the brains of mice when they are asleep.

“We know that the best deep sleep is the non-REM [stage] three sleep, and that’s when 70 to 90 percent of the clearance occurs ... Very little occurs while you’re awake,” says Dr. Lemole.

Apart from getting the right kind of deep sleep, what other dietary and lifestyle factors known to enhance body lymphatic flow could also enhance brain lymphatic clearance?

Dr. Lemole has also served as professor of surgery and chief of cardiac surgery at Temple University. Today, he joins Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon to introduce brain lymphatics and how they might be harnessed to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

The Supreme Court Thursday put the Environmental Protection Agency’s “good neighbor” plan on hold while legal challenges continue. The air pollution regulation was aimed at reducing ozone emissions from upwind states. Three Republican-led states and the steel and fossil-fuel industries brought the lawsuit.

The Supreme Court blocked Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy settlement, which would have shielded the Sackler family from lawsuits over their alleged role in the opioid epidemic. The Biden administration challenged the settlement, arguing it abused bankruptcy protections.

The Supreme Court also decided that hospitals in Idaho can, for now, perform abortions in medical emergencies. The ruling came after the Biden administration sued Idaho’s near-total abortion ban under the emergency medical treatment and labor act.

The Pentagon announced it’s investigating the effectiveness of the pier built by the U.S. military off the coast of Gaza. The pier has faced weather and security challenges since it was built in May, and has had to be re-anchored twice due to heavy seas.

The justices voted 6–3 that Missouri and Louisiana lacked standing to sue the administration for alleged censorship. The nation’s highest court declined to impose limits on the way the government may communicate with social media platforms.

According to a prematurely posted opinion, the Supreme Court may be denying Idaho’s request for an emergency review of a lawsuit over its abortion ban. If the opinion is released, it would allow emergency abortions in Idaho when a pregnant woman’s health is at serious risk. The Supreme Court confirmed that a document was leaked, but did not specify how final the document was.
