Eliot Simons is not only the treasurer of Wallingford Triathlon Club, but has also successfully completed the Austrian Extreme Triathlon – an event that involves swimming, cycling and running over 230km as well as ascending over 6,000 metres across the mountains! Eliot tells us how he got into triathlon and the training required to undertake such a challenge.

In other sports we look back at Chelsea’s win in the Women’s FA Cup Final, in front of a world record crowd of 77,000 at Wembley – and in the men’s Premier League we look at Manchester City now being one win away from being crowned champions.

Rugby League’s Super League had several close finishes or astonishing comebacks – and Leeds’ ground Headingley had watchers holding back tears as Kevin Sinfield carried his old teammate Rob Burrow over the finish line of the first Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, that raised over £1 million for MND charities.

Rugby Union’s premiership finalists were decided, with Sale facing Saracens in the final at Twickenham on 27th May. And Ireland’s Women finished a tough year by qualifying for the first time for the 7’s tournament in next year’s Summer Olympics in Paris.

The Giro D’Italia cycling race has had a hectic week. It started with a loose dog causing a big pile up of the leaders and ended with Britain’s Geraint Thomas in the pink jersey, after the previous race leader Remco Evenepeol had to withdraw after a positive Covid test.

And in this week’s Get a Grip we take aim at the RFU and Premier Rugby following their disgraceful decision to deny Championship winners Jersey Reds from being promoted to next season’s top flight.

We start with Tennis and the good news of Andy Murray winning his first tournament since 2019, as well as discussing the GB Men’s & Junior’s wheelchair tennis teams being crowned world champions in Portugal.

We have all the latest from the Premier League and WSL as the title race, chase for Europe and relegation battles all seem set to go to the wire.

In Cycling we have the latest from the men’s Giro D’Italia, whilst in Spain’s La Vuelta Femenina it was the narrowest of victories for Dutch rider Annamiek Van Vleuten as she won the 7-day race by just 9-seconds, to secure her third La Vuelta title.

England fast bowler Katherine Sciver-Brunt announced her retirement from the international game. After 19-years, 267-caps and 335 wickets the treble Ashes, double ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup winner hangs up her spikes as one of the greats of English cricket.

It was the final regular season weekend in Rugby Union’s Premiership, with European places still up for grabs, and in Rugby League the Catalans’ pre-match entertainment of a parade of prize winning cattle went wrong with one of the bulls breaking loose and chasing round the startled players.

Victoria Monk is part of the team “There She Rows” – these four women not only broke a record for carrying a rowing boat 100-miles over the South Downs but are also rowing 3,000-miles across the Atlantic to raise awareness of the number of girls and women who drop out of sport each year, and to try and inspire them back in (as well as raising funds for 3 great charities).

In our sports round up, Andy was part of a world record crowd of 58,498 in the Women’s 6 Nations at Twickenham as England secured the Grand Slam with a 38-31 win over France. In the Premier League, Manchester City have overtaken Arsenal in their chase for a treble, whilst Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp injured his hamstring while celebrating his team’s late winner over Tottenham.

In Athletics we have a new, bizarre world record from the London Marathon, and we also cover the controversy in the Marathon Des Sables as the leader and local favourite, Rachid El Morabity, withdrew from the race after receiving a time penalty for allegations of receiving outside help.

And in Netball’s Super League the race for the title is hotting up with London Pulse defeating Manchester Thunder and Surrey Storm to go top of the table moving towards the play offs.

In Episode 99 we bring you three amazing guests. In the Women’s 6 Nations rugby, England’s win over Ireland and France’s win over Wales sets them up for a Grand Slam decider this weekend, in front of a world record crowd with 53,000 tickets already sold. And in the Men’s Premiership the final 4 teams were confirmed in the play offs. Meanwhile in Rugby League, Warrington’s 9 week run at the top of the table was ended as their loss to St Helens and Wigan’s win over Wakefield means the “Piemen” now leapfrog to the top of the table. In the Challenge Cup Halifax’s 28-0 win over Bradford Bulls has been rewarded with a home tie against St Helens in the last 16, whilst York City Knights being drawn against London Broncos means that we are guaranteed a Championship side in the last 8.

We bring you the latest twists and turns in the Premier League and the Women’s Super League, as well as a look back at the FA Cup Semi-Finals which means that Manchester United and Manchester City will play each other in a major final for the first time. We also have the sad news that England Lioness’s Captain, Leah Williamson, will miss the World Cup this summer due to a ruptured ACL.

We kick off with an update on the “There She Rows” rowing team, who were carrying their boat for 100 miles over the Easter weekend.

In football we cover the key games in the Premier League, and the semi finals in the Women’s FA Cup – where Manchester United Women and Chelsea Women booked their places in the Wembley final.

We have updates from the Women’s 6 Nations Rugby, with a record attendance in a sold-out Wales v England, as well as wins for France and Italy. In Rugby League, Warrington’s unbeaten start to the season has come to an end, losing to second placed Wigan Warriors 13-6.

In Football we discuss the incident involving Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and the elbow of an assistant referee (linesman in Andy & Tony’s era!) as the FA investigates following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal. In better football news we celebrate England’s Lionesses beating Brazil on penalties to win the Finalissima game between the European and South American champions.

Any discussion of Horse Racing comes with a health warning given Andy’s track record of predictions at Aintree, but we look towards this weekend’s Grand National, and share a couple of tips that you can back (or, more sensibly, avoid!).

In rowing we cover the women’s crew who walked 100 km with their boat. This wasn’t a mistake, it was a great feat to encourage more women and girls to get involved in sport as well as being part of the crew’s build up to their “There She Rows Atlantic Challenge” of rowing 3,000 km across the Atlantic later this year.

And finally, in this week’s Get A Grip, we talk about the opening round of Cricket’s County Championship – where, in the Hampshire v Nottinghamshire match, the umpires decided to break for tea with the hosts only needing 1 run to win. So tea stopped play-quintessentially English, and equally ridiculous!

This week we bring you 12 different sports, and our guest-Graham Ledger- chats about how he got involved in cricket through the ECB’s All Stars coaching programme, as well as the commitment of the on and off-field teams at his local club, Ashford.

Andy has bragging rights this week as Newcastle avenged their League Cup Final defeat by Manchester United with a 2-0 league win over Tony’s Red Devils at St James’ Park. This puts the Toon back in the top four. Meanwhile with Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter getting axed this week, Tony looks over the 12 Premier League management casualties so far this season.

The US Master Golf kicks off this weekend, so we have a preview – including the retirement of former winner Sandy Lyle and the stunning scenery of the famous Augusta course.

In Rugby Union we discuss England’s dominant display over Italy in the Women’s 6 Nations and France’s big win over Ireland – that keeps the two teams on course for a Grand Slam finale at Twickenham at the end of April. And in Rugby League it was the 4th round of the Challenge Cup, where the teams outside the Super League are competing for the final 4 places with the top teams in the 6th Round.

We also have a slew of records in Athletics and Cricket, and in Horse Racing Doddie’s Impact – named after Scotland rugby player and Motor Neurone Disease campaigner Doddie Weir – won in the first weekend of the flat season, with his owners making a significant donation from the prize money to the MND charity that Doddie set up.

In Episode 95 we start by looking back at the weekend’s Boat Race, with Cambridge University taking a clean sweep in all four races on the River Thames.

With the Reading Half-Marathon coming up this week, Tony talks about the part he played in the race having an iconic finish in the football stadium. And whilst he isn’t training for a race this year, we also celebrate Tony’s consistency with this week marking 3 years of him setting himself the challenge of training two times every day.

The Women’s Six Nations Rugby kicked off with three great games – convincing wins for England and Wales, and a hard-fought win for France. England captain Sarah Hunter signed off a wonderful career at her home club Newcastle. Meanwhile at Tottenham Hotspur's stadium, Andy & Billy Carr (our Football Correspondent) were watching Saracens v Harlequins and trying to deal with leaky pint pots!

In our “Get a Grip” feature we call out the hypocrisy of Premier League football clubs, with many of them holding “green football days” and preaching to fans about carbon neutral, whilst themselves flying to over 80% of away games.

In Episode 94 we kick off looking at the FA Cup quarter-finals, and the madness at Old Trafford that saw Fulham have two players and their manager sent off as they lost 3-1 to Manchester United.

Continuing with red cards, in Rugby, England’s Freddie Steward was sent off in their defeat by Ireland. This win meant the men in green sealed the 6 Nations title and Grand Slam, whilst France sealed runner up spot by beating Wales and Scotland finished a good season with a close fought win over Italy.

Two legends of women’s sport announced their retirements this week. England Rugby captain Sarah Hunter plays her last game on Saturday against Scotland, after a 16-year career that has included winning the World Cup and multiple Grand Slams, as well as being England’s most ever capped player – both women’s and men’s. Maddie Hinch has been England and Great Britain goalkeeper for 15 years, winning gold at both the Olympics and Commonwealth Games during her 186 caps. Two greats, who have both done so much for women’s sport.

This week’s guest is Darryl Saunders, Chairman of Langley FC. He joins us to chat through how he got involved with the club, as well as the great plans for making the club a key asset in the local community by developing the off-field facilities to match the ambitious aspirations on the field. A club that is definitely going places.

In Episode 93 we discuss the fallout from the Gary Lineker and BBC situation, and ask whether both sides could have handled things differently?

Getting back on the field – where we much prefer to be – we look back at the weekend’s 6 Nations Rugby and England’s humbling at the hands of France, Ireland’s next step towards a Grand Slam in Edinburgh and a Welsh win in Rome. In the Northern variant of Rugby (League) we run through the results from the weekend, with Warrington and Catalans continuing their unbeaten starts to the season.

In Cricket, Bangladesh completed a 3-0 series win over England in the T20 series, but there is a silver lining for the Three Lions team with the appointment of Australian bowling coach David Saker ahead of this year’s Ashes and World Cup.

Hurling gets a first ever appearance on our show, with Andy having been hooked by coverage of the bottom of the table battle between Antrim and Laois with Antrim’s win condemning the visitors to having to play off for their Division One future.

In Athletics we mourn the sad passing of Dick Fosbury- the man who revolutionised the high jump with his “flop” jumping style.

We’re joined by our football correspondent Billy Carr, to give us the latest at both the top and bottom of the Premier League as well as how he sees things playing out as the title and relegations races enter their final lap.
