November 05, 2020 Starting Fresh: How Valerie Therrien Built a Nursing Business in Mexico
Valerie Therrien is a nurse from French Canada.
When the opportunity arose for she and her family to move to the Mexican Riveria, they jumped on it. That was 7 years ago.
Valerie, her husband and her two girls moved without knowing the language.
When Valerie's girls quickly became fluent she realized they were staying put, she decided to put some effort into learning the language.
Being able to communicate in Spanish opened up an opportunity for Valerie who missed working as a nurse.
She went through the daunting task of getting a nursing license in Mexico, which took her almost 2 years, multiple trips to Mexico City and an astounding amount of paperwork.
While she was waiting for the license to come through, Valerie wasted no time in getting to know her network - other doctors, nurses and allied health.
She realized there was an opportunity to work as a freelance nurse in this area.
She spent the time waiting handing out business cards and keeping her audience informed of her progress.
By the time Valerie got her nursing license in Mexico, she already had referrals coming into her.
She now practices Concierge Nursing in Mexico, provides nursing consultations and does IV Hydration.
Valerie overcame obstacles that would have stopped most people including getting a license abroad in a language she didn't know in a country where she knew no one.
Her can do attitude is a testament to the amazing work of nurses around the world, who just aren't willing to accept a "no" or "you can't do that".

Vanessa Peck has worked as a nurse for more than 12 years. One day during a regular ED shift, a mom and her 17 year old son came in.
The son had behavioral issues and was quite agitated. The ED attending ordered medications to calm him down, but the mother asked to give her son his cannabis treatment.
Vanessa didn't think much of it till she came back and the boy who has severely agitated 20 minutes prior was watching TV in bed and laughing with his mother.
This incredible transformation led Vanessa on a search for what cannabis and CBD could do.
Vanessa got trained as a cannabis consultant and began exploring how cannabis can help kids with autism, behavior issues, fears, PANDAS, treatment resistant epilepsy, ADHD, anxieties and depression.
Her research has uncovered astounding findings that she now uses to help parents make informed decisions about incorporating cannabis into a child's treatment regimen.
Vanessa launched her business Elevated Healing to help parents to explore alternative options and to really understand what is available to help their children.

October 08, 2020 Transforming Healthcare Through Comedy and Compassion: Dr. Candy Campbell's Story
Dr. Candy Campbell started her career as an actor and flight attendant. Then during one truly harrowing flight, she discovered her call for nursing.
Like many nurses she worked in various specialties finally settling into the neonatal ICU.
While working there she discovered a problem that she wanted someone to focus on. That someone became herself.
Candy wanted to document the life of micro preemies.
When she couldn't get anyone else to film her dream, she returned to film school to learn how to put together a documenatry.
Her documentary ended up winning awards and was highly acclaimed. This path led her to write books, and her books led to speaking engagements.
Then she rediscovered acting in the form of stand up comedy and improv.
Candy realized the potential for improv to improve communication in healthcare.
She began doing improv workshops for corporations and hospitals.
At the same time she became intrigued and obsessed with the writings of Florence Nightengale.
She now does solo acts dressing up as the great Florence and teaching her methods across the country.

October 01, 2020 Breaking the Patient-Provider Barrier: Brad Ferris’ Approach to AI-Enhanced Care
Brad Ferris, RN worked at the bedside for many years.
One of the things that frustrated Brad was the focus on the rhetoric of patient centric care, but working in a provider centric environment.
Brad noticed that the way we speak to our patients is very transactional.
Our interactions tend to lack warmth and empathy mostly due to the time constraints we've been placed under.
Brad worked extensively in clinical research trials and came across artificial intelligence. He worked with artificial intelligence with the patients and saw some interesting results.
He began to explore how artificial intelligence in text messaging could create a patient centric environment.
Brad began writing scripts for the messaging that could interact with patients and help to create the beginning of a relationship.
Not only that, by using AI, the messenger could answer an unlimited number of phone calls at the same time, negating the need to have a lot of staff putting patients on hold.
Brad's overall big idea was to take the transactional conversations we've been having with patients and turn it into therapeutic conversations that are inviting and rewarding.
Brad's innovative idea is being taken to marketplace to launch in clinics across the US to improve the conversations we are having with our patients.
