  • The Unfiltered Nurse
Yolanda Russell worked as a second career nurse on a medical-surgical unit. While she loved her job, she still felt a yearning for something else and something that would create an impact and spur nurses to action.
She decided to start a podcast called Real, Raw and Free, but made the common mistake of not identifying who her audience really was. As she discovered that she enjoyed talking to nurses and building up that relationship, she understood that her podcast needed to focus on talking to nurses.
Yolanda rebranded and redesigned her podcast to be called the Unfiltered Nurse. It was an immediate hit with nurses and helped Yolanda curate an audience. By listening to this audience, Yolanda was able to get ideas of the problems the nurses were having and how she could help.
Realizing that she was onto something big, Yolanda recognized that she needed a business coach. She made the tough decision to invest $5000 in a coach to learn how to build something of her very own.
The result was launching her Breakthrough Burnout method, which was her first 1:1 mentorship program.
With the feedback from this initial group, Yolanda made a lot changes to create the Breakthrough and Brand Mentorship program which she quietly and successfully launched to her audience.
Yolanda is full of energy and really enjoys helping nurses get to where they want to go. To learn more about her, check out her website at:

  • Nurse Leader Network
Chris Recinos is the owner and CEO of the Nurse Leader Network. As a nurse executive in a busy and very large healthcare network, Chris saw the need to nurture and network with nurses who want to be leaders.
Chris was able to climb the ladder of success through when opportunities arose because she was willing to be flexible and take on roles that she was willing to grow into.
Chris served as an acting medical director, CNO and other high ranking positions. However, Chris also found herself always at work and realized she hadn’t aligned her work with her family values. She needed to find what she calls “a life-work” balance, where life and family came first.
Chris wanted to help other nurses to assume leadership roles in institutions without having to give up being present with their families.
So she started the Nurse Leader Network, a site, blog and podcast aimed at inspiring nurses to become leaders. And Chris doesn’t believe a fancy title gives nurses power, she believes that nurses already have the power they need to make a difference. It’s her mission to show them how to leverage it.
The Nurse Leader Network supports nurses through every stage of their leadership journey while helping them to balance life on their OWN terms.

  • Elena Bensonoff
Elena Bensonoff is the founder of Wholistic Inc., Published Author, World Renowned Wholistic Teacher, Clinical Pharmacist, Diplomate in Anti-Aging, Functional and Regenerative Medicine, Award Winning Natural Perfumer, and Creator of the Wholistic Wisdom Program and Masterclass, which have helped thousands of people all over the world harness their inner healing power to end their struggles with Chronic Illness once and for all.
Elena started her career as a clinical pharmacist but quickly found that she was not fulfilled with this career path. During a health crisis in her life, doctors told Elena that she would need to stay on multiple different medications. Elena was determined to find a different solution. She discovered that diet, stress and environment were playing a large role in her health, so she became determined to change it.
She also started exploring healing modalities. She was invited to attend an American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine conference. This conference was her first real introduction to traditional holistic practices. Elena became captivated by the research and case studies supporting natural healing techniques and it confirmed her beliefs about how toxic many of the ingredients in Western medicine are.
The most powerful realization Elena had on her path was that true healing doesn’t come in a pill bottle. It comes from within. Every person holds the key to their own healing.
All they need is a guiding light to empower them with love, wisdom, and support. Thus, Wholistic, Inc. was born, and this is what Elena has herself to for over 20 years. Now, her only career goal is to expand the network of empowered self-healers and lightworkers all over the world through infusing light, love, and wisdom into her books, meditations, and internationally renowned Wholistic courses.

  • Mijamaz
As a Registered Nurse, Yordis was inspired to create Mijamaz medical-pajama to protect the body privacy of patients in care settings. Multiple studies found that patients experience distress and a weakening in their immunity when their body privacy is repeatedly compromised in care settings.
She made it her mission to create Mijamaz when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer which led to frequent hospitalizations. On many occasions when she visited her mom, her frail body was exposed and cold - even the most private parts of her body. Of course, she was wearing the notorious ill-fitting one size fits all backless hospital gowns.
Yordis decided to do something about it. She started sketching out hospital gown designs. When she finally was happy with a design she sent it to a seamstress to sew. Yordis came up against many obstacles in bringing this product to market which we discuss in this episode.

  • Nurse Owned Staffing Agencies
Shemeka Jones worked as an HR professional before becoming a nurse. She loved the role of the nurse and found a lot of satisfaction in traveling as a nurse as well. Her life changed when she met another nurse on assignment who planted the idea that starting a staffing agency would be a good idea.
At first Shemeka resisted the idea but slowly started looking into what would be involved in such a venture. She discovered quickly that the first step into the hospital system was to get insurance coverage and work with the vendor management systems.
Each step of the way Shemeka found information was not freely available and good advice was hard to come by. She and her business partner lucked out on their first contract and were able to make the business grow. Though Shemeka still remembers struggling with uncertainty in those earlier days.
Now that Shemeka’s staffing agency is doing well, she has turned her attention to helping other nurses get their staffing agencies up and running. She created a group call NOSA (nurse owned staffing agency), where she mentors for free and provides tools and resources. For nurses who have taken the initial steps to start the agency, Shemeka also offers a paid accelerator program that jump starts their success.
