O3C Games

Back to it then, eh lads?

It’s 2022. An entirely new year. You know what’s not new?

Our *love* for videogames.

What did we get up to in our Christmas break then?

Minty played… some Digimon! Jonathan played… some Binding of Isaac! Chris played… some old rubbish no one cares about?

Peppered in between all that, listen out for some colourful stories of Jackbox parties, some colourblind stories of Switch indies, ..and tales of Chris’ lost Christmas days playing long-discontinued ports of ancient arcade racing games.

Back in list town, which three hits replace our - not misses, of course - but older hits?

Minesweeper Genius! Superliminal! Dariusburst!

“they’re good games Brent.”

Thank goodness that one’s over, eh?

Games have kept us sane. They’ve kept us in touch with one another. They’ve kept us busy. They’ve kept us.. fit?

Escapism, creative outlets, communication tools, a home gym. We love them.

Get your ears round our end of year spectacular to hear our favourite gaming moments of the year, as well as stand-out titles that we consider our games of the year.

What will be crowned our collective game of the year? Will Chris be able to convince the boys that Cruisn’ Blast is the best thing released in 2021? Will Jonathan and Minty be able to argue that The Binding of Isaac’s recent DLC counts as a new game? Can we really nominate Animal Crossing: New Horizons again?

LISTEN, ENJOY and ENGAGE

It's Christmas!

Alongside seasonal staples like gorging yourself to the point of near-death, sharing gifts with all and sundry, and arguing about politics over the dinner table, it's the O3C Christmas Special!

This year, we loosely hijack the parable of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, to chat about our gaming ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

We pontificate on disappointing gaming gifts gone by as recipients of the past; explore some hidden gems of a very here-and-now eShop sale as Christmas misers of the present; and then get all warm and fuzzy considering the games and game adjacent treats we may like to pass on as Christmas gifters of the future.

Seasons greetings, and a very Merry Christmas from all at O3C Towers!

Another week, another trio of games p r o m o t e d as a trio of forebears are canned.

There’s the usual chit chat about the games wot we bin playin. Jonathan and Minty enjoy a bit more Isaac, in co-op no less! Minty trudges through the latter stages of Digimon Cyber Sleuth’s cyber story and begins a 100% playthrough of Paper Mario. Chris plays a liddle bidda dis and a liddle bidda dat, but mainly just gets annoyed at Hot Wheels Unleashed.

Then onto that there list admin:

Minty points and clicks through the graphic adventure NAIRI: Tower of Shirin. Jonathan hacks and / or slashes his way through Platinum’s largely forgotten Nintendo exclusive Astral Chain. Chris celebrates O3C’s favourite QWERTY keyboard controlled dungeon crawler, Backspace Bouken.

All great titles now IMMORTALISED on our apparently ever shifting top 100 games of all time.

The housekeeping begins!

Spreadsheets at our finger tips, we begin the devastating process of retro-fitting some of our very favourite videogames back into our top 100 lists. Which titles make the cut? Which titles get the chop?

The sacred scrolls have been unfurled. The table has been set with the very finest cutlery. The cork is popped on a very expensive bottle of alcoholic lager beer.

Minty swipes at the mobile bonanza Disco Zoo. Jonathan cruises around the digital idyll that is Forza Horizon’s take on the British Isles. Chris completes a 700 mile round trip to shoot at a cup in Quick & Crash.

Also! In depth Binding of Isaac: Repentance progress reports! Chris’s thoughts on Vita action RPG Freedom Wars! Asterix! Digimon!

We’re back, baby!

Refreshed, clean-shaven (metaphorically of course), and with a new hat!

Our Three Cents becomes O3C Games as we step away from our top 100 lists.

Well, not just yet.

Season 3.5 represents us ‘showing our workings in the margins’, picking through the games we’ve played and loved over the last 3 years that fell just outside the window of eligibility for our top 100 lists.

From next week we’ll be tackling three games a week, old-school style, and attempting to give them a rough position in a revised list. We’ll also each say farewell to a game a week, shunted unceremoniously from the top 100 to make way for the new class.

For today though, let us tell you of the games we’ve spent our 6 weeks off playing. Big games! Little games! Good games! Bad games!

I T ‘ S  A L L  H E R E

(Astrobot’s Playroom, Sackboy’s Adventure, Farm Together, MUD, Pic-a-Pix Classic, Evercade VS, Bomb Club, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Digimon Cyber Sleuth, Metroid Dread, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Tetris Effect Connected, Dead Cells, Tales of Iron, Binding of Isaac: Repentance)

With just a week to go until the final episode of season three (and the bombshell revelation that we all, independent of one another, have placed the PlayStation's Japanese exclusive Pepsiman at the top of our lists), we've decided to celebrate YOU.

In this final week of edging before our lists conclude, we're diving into Your Three Cents, and picking over ten top ten sent in by ten top friends to give our thoughts on some of your very favourite video games of all-time!

With all our love,
The O3C Boys

15 more games that didn’t quite make it into our top 100 lists.

They’re not the best games, by any means. But they are certainly games. And games that we enjoyed, no less!

Want to hear a few, possibly misremembered thoughts on games as varied as Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell? WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It? A grab bag of Flash-based web games?

Want to hear some foggy memories of Doom RPG? Bad impressions of characters from an unspecified entry in the Professor Layton series? Or a heartfelt run down of The Discworld M.U.D.?

After what feels like one million years, we stand just weeks from the zenith of our lists.

To whet your collective whistles, and to leave everyone positively salivating for our favourite games of all time, we’ve gone back to the genesis of our lists to discuss the almost-rans that narrowly missed out on inclusion by metric of us judging them to be worse than Bomber Raid, Elebits and Clockwork Knight 2.

In the first of this two part bonus, allow us to serve up 15 games that we thoroughly enjoyed!

(just not as much as the 300 others we’ve already covered)
