This is an edited version of that conversation but if you would like to see the full stream check out the video here.

My Fav Black and White Movies
Some Like It Hot from 1959
The Picture of Dorian Gray from 1945
Dear John
Not to be confused with the Nicholas Sparks movie, this tv show starred Judd Hirsch and was on tv for 4 years between 1988 and 1992.
Freudian Stages
I was referring to Freud’s stages of psychological development. There are 5 stages in his theory oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital. The one I was specifically referencing was the anal stage where he stated during this stage a child derives great pleasure from defecating. This also reminds us about how weird Freud was.
Dr. Acula on Scrubs
Nick Carter’s Cameo
It’s legit 3 seconds and you can’t make out a face so I can see why people would miss it.
Dog Grooming Show
Ok, It wasn’t a competition show but it was about a dog competition. The show is called “Well Groomed” ad it is about creative dog grooming,
Frankenweenie
Frankenweenie was a live action short by Burton that was released in 1984 before the animated feature from 2012.
In this episode Adam Upper joined me to chat about 2 silly buddy comedies, Dude Where’s My Car? And Dumb and Dumber.
Dude Where’s My Car
Dumb and Dumber
Charlie O’Connell
There are NOT 3 O’Connell brothers just 2, Jerry and Charlie. I gotta say, he looks real different in this and that may be why I thought there was 3….
David Herman
The thing I knew him from before Office Space was MADtv.
Bubble Wrap Jumpsuit
So I decided to look up the bubble wrap jumpsuit and they are a lot cheaper than they used to be. I found listings ranging from $20-$60. But there is a problem with all the suits I found (note I didn’t look that hard)
1. They are all 2 piece suits instead of a one piece jumpsuit
2. They are all uses the bigger bubble bubble wrap instead of the smaller bubbles. So it doesn’t have the same je ne sais quoi
Fabio
He doesn’t need to have a last name for people to know who you’re talking about, like Cher and Madonna, but he does have one Lanzoni. I looked him up as I was saying I don’t know why he is as famous as he is/was for just being a model for romance novel covers but he was a film star and model in Italy before taking on North America and then he just kept doing what he did and there you go. If you look at his filmography he mainly played himself and everyone seemed to enjoy these little nods that were generally entertaining.
For me he will always be the guy from the book covers
And the guy in these commercials
Animated Cat Lady
This is something I should have picked up but didn’t during my watch of the movie. Chester and Jesse go to the Kitty Kat Club, a cat themed strip joint where is you may attention, you can see it has a a sexy cat lady on its sign. This cat lady looks very similar to the animated cat and I am pretty sure that is the connection.
Animated Cat
Uranus does smell like farts
This was apparently confirmed in 2018 when scientist were able to identify sonsentrations of hydrogen sulphide on Uranus which is the same gas that causes the foul stench profuced by flatulence and rotting eggs. Ew. You can find more in this article from CBC
https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as-it-happens-tuesday-full-episode-1.4633051/uranus-smells-like-farts-scientists-confirm-1.4633058
Karl Eating Pudding
Joe Manganiello
From Flash Thompson to now, Joe aged like a fine wine.
The Rock
From the season 6 episode of Star Trek Voyager that first aired in 2000 til now.
Spock in TNG
Leonard Nimoy once again became Spock for 2 episodes in the 5th season of Star Trek the Next Generation. In the 2 episodes, “Unification” 1 & 2, Spcok tries to broker peace with the Romulans.
Facts about Ostriches
This is where I got those facts.
https://factcity.com/facts-about-ostriches/#:~:text=Ostriches%20are%20incredibly%20territorial.,the%20victor%20go%20the%20spoils!
Also, I think cuz I serched this I keep getting random bird/ostrich things in my feed now. But here are some additional things I learned
1. One ostrich egg is the equivalent of approximately 24 chicken eggs
2. Ostriches lay about 15 – 20 eggs a year
3. They do not lay eggs all year like chickens but have a specific breeding season
4. There are ostrich farms where they harvest both meat and eggs
The Shoebill Stork
This is a very intimidating bird.
Miserable by Lit
American Psycho by Treble Charger
Treble Charger was a Canadian band that found fame in the late 90s early 2000s
Boom Shack-A-Lak by Apache Indian
Down Periscope
The movie came out in 1996 and starred Kelsey Grammer, Rob Schneider, William H. Macy, and Harry Dean Stanton along side Lauren Holly.
Alix Cook joins me to chat about 2 movies that have nothing in common as far as I can tell except an association with books. Or is it?
Down with Love
Dracula
Hailee Steinfeld Show I couldn’t remember
I am surprised I couldn’t remember her AppleTv show about Emily Dickinson when it was just called “Dickinson”
Dirty Dancing
I had to look up the ages of Johnny and Baby in Dirty Dancing cuz I was not convinced. Apparently, Johnny is 24, and Baby is 18, and that blows my mind!!! I was wrong, but still seeing them on screen makes me uncomfortable…
Correction – Opening Sequence of Dracula
I noticed I said “The opening was mainly black and white and shadow” Where it was actually mostly Black and Red and Shadow.
Throuple
I was right, that is what it is called, a relationship consisting of 3 people.
Evil Countess
Here is a link to the squeamish Wiki page for Elizabeth Báthory and her horrible deeds.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_B%C3%A1thory
Lore Podcast
I probably shouldn’t be linking to other podcasts but I think it might be good to listen to this uncomfortable but highly interesting episode of Lore
https://www.lorepodcast.com/episodes/episode-113-word-of-mouth
Correction – Christopher Moore
I don’t know why I kept saying “Michael Moore”! The author’s name is Christopher Moore and he has tons of books. But his Vampire books are “Blood Sucking Fiends”, “You Suck”, and “Bite Me”. They’re all really good. But I enjoy his writing style.
In this episode Sean Archer is here to chat about 2 very different types of sci-fi movies, Donnie Darko and Doom.
Donnie Darko
Doom
Words of the day
Taciturn – adjective – inclined to silence; reserved in speech; reluctant to join in conversation.
Noctilucent – adjective Meteorology. – (of high-altitude clouds) visible during the short night of the summer.
Akimbo – adverb – with hands on the hips and elbows turned outward;
Terminology from “The Philosophy of Time Travel”
Here is a link to a site that has all the terms and explanations
http://www.donniedarko.org.uk/explanation/
Inception
Here is an article that refers to what I was mentioning about Inception where the spinning top may not have been Cobb’s real totem. It may actually have been something else, much less obvious, or even a person…
https://screenrant.com/inception-movie-nolan-cobb-totem-wedding-ring-spinning-top/
Star Trek Voyager – Relativity
The Voyager episode I was referring to is from season 5, episode 24, “Relativity” it is a pretty good one with all kind of paradoxes all over the place. But there are a lot of time travel episodes in this series in general.
Southland Tales
No idea how to describe this movie it has to be seen to be experienced. I am not saying it is going to be a good experience though…
The Other Aliens Sean Mentioned
The one that plays the games – Sirna Kolrami – He was a male Zakdorn that was introduced on the Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2 episode “Peak Performance”. He looks more like his face is melting than in the wind
Ages of the actors in Grease
Grease was release in 1978. Here are the main cast ages at that time
John Travolta – 24
Olivia Newton-John – 30
Stockard Channing – 34
Didi Conn – 27
Jeff Conaway – 28
Alliteration in comic books
I figured out why I made that note. It is because of this exchange between Gretchen and Donnie.
Gretchen: “Donnie Darko.” What the hell kind of name is that? It’s like some sort of superhero or something.
Donnie: What makes you think I’m not?
It really is like some kind of superhero name and a lot of superheroes have alliterative names. Here is just a few examples
Peter Parker
Sheep go to Heaven and goats go to hell
This saying is derived from Matthew 25:31-46 where it talks about man being separated like a shepherd separating his flock where the sheep are on the right and the goats are on the left. Where those on the right will be accepted and those on the left will be cast out.
It is also a great song by Cake
Septic Tank
That is the term I couldn’t think of. The tank that just holds sewage so it can break down.
Doom Game Plot
The game was first released in 1993 and after checking the wiki, it kind of half matches the movie.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_(1993_video_game)#Plot
Robert Pattinson
Here is the article I was referring to about him not working out during quarantine. I mean it makes sense.
Robert Pattinson Refuses to work out
Blade Runner Quote
Here is the quote said by Batty that Sean was trying to remember
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time… like tears in rain… Time to die.”
Budget for Doom
According to IMDB the budget for this movie was $60mil. That isn’t what I would call low budget.
Karl Urban moved Leonard Nimoy to tears
Here is an article that talks about the incident
https://comicbook.com/startrek/news/star-trek-karl-urban-leonard-nimoy-cry/
In this episode Adam Upper returns to talk about Kevin Smith and his foray into religious satire and about a sort of true story about a lady bounty hunter who was almost a reality star with Dogma and Domino.
Dogma
Domino
Kevin Smith Protesting His Own Movie
Here the vid where he talks about the incident including the news report.
View Askew Comics
After a quick search and reading a couple of Wikis here are the lis of comics that have characters from the View Askew world
Clerks: The Comic Book (1997)
There are also a couple comics where Jay and Silent bob show up in backgrounds apparently
Green Arrow Vol. 3 #6: Jay and Silent Bob had a brief appearance in one panel (2001)
Forgotten Name
The character name we couldn’t remember was Tricia Jones aka “Trish the Dish”
Lucas with the Lid Off
I forgot how hype this song is.
Lamb
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal, that’s this full title, was written my Michael Moore and released in 2002.
Director who like to be in their movies
Here is a list courtesy of IMDB
Note: a majority of the list are modern directors but some of the older include Charlie Chaplin, Orson Wells, and Edward D. Wood Jr.
Who’s House?
In case Adam isn’t the only one who doesn’t know the musical reference, here is the Run DMC song.
The other Hemsworth
His name is Luke.
Fear quote
It was Loki who said the comment about fear. Here is the quote:
“Do you know what makes a human being decent? Fear. And therein lies the problem. None of you has anything left to fear anymore.”
Dirty Dancing Song
Well the dinner scene starts with the song “Magic Moments” by Perry Como but it moves into the song “Love is Strange” by Mickey & Sylvia
The Jerry Springer Show
Ok ok ok, I started laughing when I read this, the last episode of the Jerry Springer show was July 26, 2018. WHAT?! I totally thought this show was off air before this movie came out (It is a retelling of previous events). Since it started on Sept 30 1991, it had 28 seasons, for a total of 4,969 episodes. I am shocked, SHOCKED! So people would definitely still know what Jerry Springer.
Suicide Squad Downed Helicopter
Here is the pic I took of the set. Its pretty cool.
In this episode Tom Davis joined me to bring some levity into your day as we talk about 2 comedies Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Dodgeball.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Dodgeball
Community
Troy did leave at the end of Season 5 but he was only in the first 5 episodes of the season.
Dan Harmon was replaced as show in season 4 of the show.
She-Ra Season 6
From what I have found, apparently this is unlikely but there has been no official announcement about it. But the ending was purposefully left open to allow the possibility. So we will have to wait and see.
Bedtime Story
Released in 1964, the film stars Marlon Brando, David Niven, and Shirley Jones.
Intellectuality
Apparently I am smarter than I know. According to Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster this is a word.
Ages
Apparently I am dumber than I know as basic math seems to be a problem. Steve Martin was born in 1945 and DRS came out in 1988. I said he was 33 but no, he was 43. Subtraction is hard guys!
Steve Martin Books
I misspoke when talking about his novels. His second book was actually call “The Pleasure of My Company”
Also, I should clarify, I haven’t read all his books but all his novels. All 3, as i mentioned, were all excellent; “Shopgirl”, “The Pleasure of my Company”, and “An Object of Beauty”. He has written several plays, screen plays, a childrens book, a memoir, and releases essay collections.
Crocodile Dundee
The movie that created an Aussie sensation was released in 1986 and was a huge hit. I was mentioning that i would have thought the star Paul Hogan may have wanted to point out stereotypes to the film makers but it turns out, he has writing credits for the movie. So, he put those in there himself.
Did you know it was also nominated for an Oscar? WHAT?! Yes, for “Best Original Screenplay”. I honestly can’t comment as I haven’t seen this movie since I was like 10 so properly judging it’s quality would be hard. But this realization is still incredibly shocking to me.
And I also got the scandal backwards. It was Paul Hogan who left his wife (who he had been married to twice over 32 years) for Linda Kozlowski. They were married from 1990 to 2013.
There are 3 movies in this series; Crocodile Dundee (1986), Crocodile Dundee II (1988), and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001).
News Radio
The sitcom was on air for 5 seasons between 1995-1999. It starred Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Andy Dick, Maura Tierney, Vicki Lewis, Joe Rogan, and Phil Hartman. Even if you don’t recognize their names, these are all well known character actors whose faces you will know immediately. IMDB
Kids in the Hall Return
According to this CBC article published in March, they are doing an 8 episode run on Amazon Prime.
Animal House Payment
This is what I found in the IMDB Trivia
“Donald Sutherland was so convinced of the movie’s lack of potential that, when offered a percent of the gross or a flat fee of $75,000 for his three days’ work, he took the upfront payment. Had he taken the gross percentage, he would have been worth an additional $3-4 million.”
So, I exaggerated a little there but he would have made about 54x what he got. That is a BIG difference.
Jack Nicholson as The Joker
According to IMDB, he got a huge payout for being in 1989’s Batman.
“Jack Nicholson received a percentage of the gross on the film, and due to its massive box-office take, he took home around $60 million. As of 2003, it is still the single-movie record for an actor’s salary.”
Tom Hanks in Forest Gump
I was correct about his take home from this movie. It wasn’t quite as much as Nicholson but it is a lot.
“Tom Hanks was not paid for this film. Instead, he took percentage points which ultimately netted him in the region of $40 million.”
Sitophilia
According to the Oxford Reference:
“describes sexual arousal involving food. It is arguably the most socially acceptable type of paraphilia. Within studies that address paraphilia”
And in case you didn’t know (i didn’t), paraphilia:
“a condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities.”
Clay Pigeons
The movie that was released in 1998 seems to be a bout infidelity, death, and a serial killer. That’s what I got from the description on IMDB. Also the movie poster is excessively 90s.
Scarface
The original Scarface film was released in 1932. As with the Al Pacino version, this is also considered one of the greatest gangster movies of all time, where the original is ranked #6 and the remake #10.
Marble Racing
In case you haven’t had the privilege of watching one of these videos, here you go.
Wife-carrying
Here’s the Wiki.
In this episode Sean Archer is here to talk about one of the best action franchises in history, Die Hard!
Die Hard
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
Die Hard With a Vengeance
Live Free or Die Hard
Jack
The actor who plays Jack, John McClane’s adult son in A Good Day To Die Hard, is Jai Courtney.
Defund the Police
Here is an article from CNN that explains the “Defund the Police” movements
There’s a growing call to defund the police. Here’s what it means
AOC Tweet
This is the tweet and video I was talking about. I forgot it was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who posted it.
Any New Yorker can tell you that this group does not look representative of the NYPD at all.
Most NYPD patrol officers are Black, Latino, or Asian American – and the overall force is about 1/5 women.
So what’s going on here? https://t.co/YrUm07pgp2
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) June 9, 2020
Van Damme as Predator?!
Well this was new to me! But I googled and easily found stories about it including this interesting picture of JCVD with Carl Weathers on set.
He was actually left/ was fired from the production that is why he was not listed in IMDB. Here is one of those articles from The Hollywood Reporter about why he left the project/why he was fired from it.
Why Did Jean-Claude Van Damme Get Replaced in ‘Predator’?
What happened to John McTiernan?
What Sean said was correct. He was found guilty of pujury and lying to the FBI and was imprisoned for just under a year. But in that time he went bankrupt. You can read more on that on his Wiki.
Jan de Bont
He was the Director of Photography (DOP) of Die Hard and most of his filmography is in the DOP position but he has directed 5 high profile films: Speed, Twister, Speed 2: Cruise Control, The Haunting, and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
Margret Dickson – The woman who survived her hanging
Here is a write-up of this woman’s miraculous survival after being found guilty of her very sad crime.
Half-hangit Maggie: The Scots woman who survived hanging
Chet Hanks
One of the 4 Hanks’ siblings, he has actually had some very high profile roles in big movies including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Project X, Fantastic Four, and the very popular tv show “Empire”.
Brock Samson
One of the most intense and hilarious cartoon characters out there voice by Patrick Warburton. He is just another piece that makes “The Venture Brothers” show so great. Check out his very comprehensive Wiki.
Gentleman Broncos
Released in 2009 to little fanfare, it is such a weird and fun movie to see with very recognizable faces like Michael Angarano, Jemaine Clement, Jennifer Coolidge, and, as mentioned, Sam Rockwell.
Mythbusters
The episode that debunks this is episode 88. Link.
Samaria
We all know the bible story about the good Samaritan, even if you don’t you at least have heard the term “a good Samaritan”, the term refers to a person from Samaria helping someone on the road. From the wiki:
“Samaria is a historical and biblical name used for the central region of the ancient Land of Israel, bordered by Galilee to the north and Judaea to the south.”
Nick Cage weird incest movie
So this movie is call Between Worlds. I was thinking this would be an older Nick Cage flick but no, it is from 2018.
David Duchovny weird incest movie
After clicking through his IMDB I found what this movie is called, The Secret. Despite being a fan of David’s I probably will never watch it.
In this episode Josh Ratcliffe and I dive deep into 2 very different movies with fantastic lead women that are just killing it! Death Becomes her and Death Proof.
Death Becomes Her
Death Proof
The Last Dance
In case you didn’t know, “The Last Dance”, is the name of the Michael Jordan Documentary that is streaming on Netflix and aired on ESPN. People LOVE it.
When did Plastic Surgery Start?
Well, according to the Wiki, the idea of this was first mentioned in ” Edwin Smith Papyrus,[6] a transcription of an Ancient Egyptian medical text, one of the oldest known surgical treatises, dated to the Old Kingdom from 3000 to 2500 BC” WHAT?!! I really thought this was a modern era thing. Like, within the last 100 years. That is crazy.
The Knick
So when talking about the show, I am talking about episode 3 where Abbie shows up. She lost most of her nose as the result of syphilis and they are performing a skin graft.
Lobotamy
So I was wrong when I mentioned this but maybe not… As what I found was that “by the late 1970s, the practice of lobotomy had generally ceased…” So who really knows? I hope it has stopped completely cuz it is horrible.
Michael Caine Film
So I kept looking to find out what this movie was. But I can’t seem to find the info plus going past page 1 on google seems pointless. But based on pics of scenes from The Ipcress File (1965), Josh may be correct but I have not been able to confirm that. Anyways, the fake movie in Death Becomes Her is called “Dark Windows.”
Forest Gump
The Novel was written by Winston Groom and the sequel novel is called “Gump & Co.” which was released in 1995. Also, I am not sure where I heard that is was pseudo-autobiographical but from what I found it isn’t. So the whole meta thing about him becoming famous and stuff wouldn’t be part of this I am assuming.
Steve Zahn
The movie I couldn’t remember that stars him and Justin Long is called Strange Wilderness.
Grind House Trailers
There were 5 fake trailers. These are all NSFW.
Machete – by Robert Rodriguez
Werewolf Women of the SS – by Rob Zombie
Don’t – by Edgar Wright
Thanksgiving – by Eli Roth
Hobo With a Shotgun – by by Jason Eisener, John Davies, and Rob Cotterill – They won Rodriguez’s SXSW Grindhouse trailers contest.
Crash
The movie we are talking about is Crash (1996). Which if you only heard the title could be confused with Crash (2004).
Bogan
Bogan is actually a an English slang.
noun
INFORMAL•DEROGATORY
noun: bogan; plural noun: bogans
an uncouth or unsophisticated person regarded as being of low social status.
Chartreuse
According to it’s Wiki, the liquor has a herbal flavour.
G.O. Juice
So after looking this up, there was reference to a drug and a smoothie place but I think this may be reference to the urbandictionary definition.
“noun. m. go juice can refer to any type of alcoholic beverage that is drunk discreetly while in transit to one´s destination so as to maximize one´s level of intoxication upon arrival.”
It makes the most sense in the movie’s context.
In this episode Erika Donovan is here to chat with me about the short lived series about death, Dead Like Me
Dead Like Me
Leg Warmers
I was trying to find out who is credited with the creation of legwarmers but all I found were articles about to popularization of the fashion/fitness accessory. The articles mainly named of course the fitness craze of the late 70s and the 80s, Jane Fonda, and movies like Flashdance and Footloose. But we all know that stuff.
Also in my research I found that there is a patent for “leg warmers“. Sadly it turned out it was not the item coveted by aerobic and dance enthusiasts but a protective garment that retains heat in extreme weather, that kind of resemble chaps, which were invented by Wade and Brent Wruck.
How long for a headstone?
Well from some very basic googling apparently this time period can vary drastically. It depends on design, size, material, and often an approval process. But for something “basic” it would be a minimum of 6-8 weeks.
Surreal painting with the dude in the hat with the apple
That is literally what I googled and it was the first thing that came up.
I was talking about the 1964 painting “The Son of Man” by the Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte.
American Gods
My confusion with “American Gods” stems from the show having 2 full seasons but those seasons are only 8 episodes each. The show has been on since 2017 and the 3rd season is supposed to be released this year but I am not sure how the current state of things has affected that.
Probability
Well after a quick google search and the reading of a couple of very depressing articles, according to the National Safety Council, here are the top 5 ways people are most likely to die.
1. Heart Disease
2. Cancer
3. Stroke
4. Motor Vehicle Accident – You would think this means car accidents but it doesn’t as that is 8th on the list.
5. Intentional Self Harm
From the publisher's feed
