Off the Arrow Shelf

In this episode of the podcast I talk a little what has been going on over the last couple of weeks, including having some guest archers at the wood for a taster of field archery.

I detail a few thoughts on the importance of voting on the NFAS proposals that are now live.

Also I discuss the idea of preparing for different situations in your practice such as drawing down from a shot, uneven footing etc

I also reference another podcast so if you get chance check out Modern outdoor survival podcasts (https://modernoutdoorsurvival.com/)

In this really special episode I am delighted to have two guests, Ben and Phil who explain their involvement in organising and running the Bowhunter challenge over here in the UK. A very different style of tournament to the well know NFAS big game rounds. So, sit back and hear how these two very enthusiastic archers tell you what makes the bowhunter challenge so much fun. Huge thanks to both for their time.

Just hit 5,000 plays of this podcast so thanks to everyone for their support.

So it is the start of a New year, so before we start Happy New Year to all.

In this episode of the podcast I talk a little about  my plans for motivation and goals, which revolve round helping archery family, whether through podcasts or writing.

I also talk about a coaching thought of difference between being zoned out and zoned in. I'll try to expand on it more in a future episode.

I also mentioned a couple of other podcasters that might be worth checking out angel Garcia podcasts again High Power Archery  (https://open.spotify.com/show/6WmNrw5VQLXUWiMKAnh5Ra?si=ZfihXHg3S1GyMm2FsDpU4A)

So it is the start of a New year, so before we start Happy New Year to all.

In the first episode of the new year, I had the great pleasure of being joined by Zach Ball. A young man I’ve know for well over 10 years and is a very capable archer and course layer. We spend an hour talking about course laying, factors to consider depending on environment, targets you are setting out,  as well as loads of other stuff like our views on target faces, juniors in the society and general archery stuff.

It’s the first in a series I am hoping to record on course laying.

So, seasons greetings to all and best wishes for the new year. I hope all my followers and listeners across the pond are safe and being able to stay warm given the current weather conditions you are experiencing. This is just a short podcast , partly due to  feeling sorry for myself having come down with stinking cold just after Christmas and part reflective, probably due to time of year on things that have happened in the past and still making me feel about my possible future in archery.

The book I mention is How to get rid of Archers reflex by Jess Lysgaard. It's just been translated into English .

Check out the latest on my website for a review of the NFAS target faces we have been using down at the club for past few months .

Also sharing some sad news of  the passing of one of my old coaches Cherrie Peabody  who introduced Sharon and myself to archery . My thoughts and sympathy got out to her family.

I enjoy getting feedback from listeners and any questions or thoughts let me know, drop me an email on [email protected] or via the website offthearrowshelf.com

So I take a walk in the wood and record some thoughts on what we can be doing over winter months. From things that you can do, to things to consider for maintenance at your woodland.

In this episode I mention how I’ve picked up a new bow (White Feather Sheerwater)

I mention the National Field Archery Society new rule book has come out and AGM which recently took place. I also briefly mention the new proposal for a couple of shooting classes both to do with use of binoculars.

Also working on new target bosses.

In this episode I explore what Field archery is explaining what it means to me, exploring differences with 3D and paper faces. I also cover the results from a poll I ran on the Traditional Archery Facebook Group about peoples preferences of 3d or paperfaces.

Also huge congratulations to Joy on her shooting at recent EFAA champs along with Rich from Archery Geek outdoors.

In this short episode I am focusing on shooting anxiety, more commonly known as target panic. I mention the theory of 333 used by some to help alleviate anxiety. I offer some thoughts on how it might help archers to ground themselves.

Sorry for the rough voice and still trying to get over a chest infection.

A short episode on the NFAS championships held in September and a few thoughts on paper faces.

Sorry I am croaking through it but have a stinking cold and cough for last few days.
