  • DDS38: Often wrong, always in doubt...

I’ve been a serial direct response entrepreneur and copywriter for 20 years now.

(I know. You’ve heard me tell my story a million times... and you’re sick of it. I you think YOU’RE sick of it... imagine how I feel.)

Anyhoo... I feel like I know less now than I did 20 years ago.

‘Cuz now I’m aware of all the stuff I DON’T know.

Little did I know that this mindset is one of the highest possible levels of awareness in ZenBuddhism.

    How ‘bout them apples?

But I didn’t arrive at this enlightened state from the practice of Zen, meditation or any of that stuff.

I got here from 20 long years of CONSTANTLY being humbled.

    Time after time after time.

You see, if you keep stepping up to bat and swinging for the fences with all your might, it’s just natural that you’re gonna strike out most of the time.

BUT... those times when you actually DO smash the ball and get a grand slam home run...

    Wow. Life changing.

Problem is, most people can’t emotionally handle what always appears to be a non-stop streak of strikeouts. (Gawd, I frickin’ LOVE illiteration.)

    Another problem is this:

If you’ve got a lot of experience, that very well could be the exact thing that’s keeping you from the big breakthroughs.

Limiting you to only hitting singles.

    Maybe doubles if you’re lucky.

If you want to swing for the fences and experience the euphoria (and monetary rewards) of the grand slam home runs, check out my latest podcast here:

  • DDS37: The success secrets revealed in Whiplash

The movie “Whiplash” isn’t about what you probably think it’s about.

Yeah, it’s about a jazz drummer and his highly abusive teacher.

But that’s not the REAL theme.

What that film is ACTUALLY about is so darn important, I did an entire podcast about it.

I can only DREAM about where I’d be today if someone would’ve shown me this movie... and explained its theme back when I was 17 or 18.

But nooooooo... I had to figure this stuff out the hard way.

    YOU don’t.

You just need to listen to Episode 37 of the “Off The Chain” podcast.

It’ll change your life... if you let it.

  • DDS36: The crucial yet weakest and most vulnerable link in your business

One of the most exciting things that can possibly happen in your business is also something that can put you out of business overnight.

    Literally!

I’m talking about rapid growth and spikes.

Your credit card processor HATES that.

And in 9 out of 10 cases, they’re going to shut down your ability to charge credit cards right in the middle of your most exciting growth period.

That’s why in this episode of Off The Chain, I’m going to walk you through a personal case study of how I handled this in one of my businesses.

This is CRUCIAL stuff you absolutely MUST know. But other than me, there ain’t NOBODY sharing it... anywhere.

  • DDS35: The Internet is getting its ass kicked by TV

Actually, it wasn’t that long ago everybody was predicting that the Internet was going to kick TV’s ass. And TV would soon go the way of the dinosaur.

But my how things have changed.

Most of the Internet guys still don’t get it.

But the “old skool” TV guys got it all figured out. And they’re making a ton of money on TV AND online.

The Internet guys got stuck in a box... and it looks like they’re gonna pay dearly for it.

Yes, I realize this isn’t the typical stuff you hear from me. I’m a copywriter and online marketer. My only project I ran on TV back when I was a rookie in the 90’s crashed and burned and I lost all my money. I haven’t even dipped my toe into those waters since that experience.

So when it comes to the business model for television, I’m a complete rookie.

But my friend Brad Richdale is a seasoned vet.

And I’ve been picking his brain about this stuff relentlessly... because I can see the future. And we online marketers are gonna be FORCED to learn it if we want to stay in business.

That’s what I’m yapping about in this week’s “Off The Chain” episode here:

  • DDS34: Let me ASK you a question...

My friend Ryan Levesque has an excellent book simply entitled “Ask.”

It’s a brilliant system for figuring out exactly what your market wants to buy.

So I recently sent an “ASK” survey to the knights in my Marketing Camelot.

And in spite of shedding blood, sweat and tears over the past 5 years showing them every single aspect of launching and growing a “lifestyle” business, I was SHOCKED at the survey results.

My immediate reaction was, “What the hell is wrong with them!?”

After a couple minutes of introspection the reply to my question was this:

“What the hell is wrong with ME?”

If you’ve ever wondered why you sometimes don’t do things that you should do to create a better life...

Or... why you may even do things to deliberately self-sabotage....

  • DDS33: The contrarian formula for happiness

One of the knights in my Marketing Camelot, Sir Rob of Gramer, sentme at-shirt the other day.

Little did he realize it was confirmation of a little personal journey I’ve been on for the past severalyears.

In three words it sums up the formula for happiness.

It also happens to be the formula for building a successful business without ever feeling frustrated.

This three-word formula is a distillation of my darn near 30 years experience as an entrepreneur.

And it’s revealed in all its glorious brilliance and simplicity here...

P.S. Most of my life I’ve done the exact opposite of this three-word formula.

Maybe that’s why I’ve been almost constantly frustrated and am almost always disappointed... with just about everything.

This simple little “mindset tweak” can change your life...

  • DDS32: Miles Davis' jazz improvisation secrets can make you a LOT of money

    I love jazz.

And Miles Davis is one of my favoritejazz innovators.

He was one of the leading figures in the bebop movement.

Then he became a leading figure in the fusion movement in the 60’s. (All the jazz traditionalist snobs hated him for this.)

Miles had an interesting belief about jazz.

A belief that was technically wrong. But Miles could make what was wrong, soooooright.

If you follow his lead, Miles Davis’ belief can lead you to success beyond belief.

P.S. My mentor, Gary Halbert, was definitely NOT a jazz fan.

But Miles Davis and Gary Halbert held similar beliefs.

The most important lesson I’ve ever learned was exactly what both Miles Davis and Gary Halbert continually taught.

The floodgates all of a sudden open, and more money than you’ve ever imagined in your life, like a massive tidal wave, floods into your life.

It doesn't come in like trickle. It floods in. It CRASHES into your life faster than you ever believed possible.

But ONLY if you’ve done all the prep work that allows this flood to happen.

  • DDS30: Rowdy Roddy Piper's wake up call

What does the low budget and campy movie from 1988 called “They Live”, starring Rowdy Roddy Piper, have to do with your success?

    Quite a lot, actually.

It’s a movie about all the hiddenconditioning all around us to keep us living our entire lives in mediocrity.

This is the stuff you gotta be aware of if you want to break away from the 95% and be successful.

    But I warn you:

You need to see the classic 6 and ½ minute fight scene in “They Live.” Because THAT is what’s gonna happen if you try to show any of the 95%’ers the reality in which they live.
