Though Kate had intentions to pursue a career in the fine arts, after a literal run-in with someone from Virgin Records in London, she found herself working in the music industry and eventually moving back to Vancouver and starting to manage artists … I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did!

For today’s episode of OffKey I spoke to Two Spirit singer-songwriter Shawnee Talbot! In high school Shawnee found music to be the medicine she needed to get her through a difficult time, and today uses it to give back and create that same medicine for others. We talked about the themes that inspire her work and her decision to leave behind a record label and management to pursue her career as an independent artist. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did.

While OffKey's second season doesn't start until May 27th, I thought I would piece together a little look back at the first season of our podcast. It's been such a pleasure learning more about the music industry from some of its Canadian members, so I hope you enjoy this episode featuring some of my favourite moments this season. Additionally, hopefully this inspires you to go back and listen through any of the episodes that you haven't heard already  - I learned so much from each and every one of our guests and it makes me so happy that I got to share my learnings with all of you! A huge thank you to all of our guests and we'll be back next week with the premiere of our second season featuring Kresnt and Kane Dabir.
