OffKey

This week on OffKey, Linh Sa is talking to Joey Clarkson, an Americana singer-songwriter from the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Though Joey now lives in London, England, despite the time difference (and technical issues associated with long-distance recording) she was kind enough to come on the podcast to talk to us about her music, how she got started as an artist, and what she's been working on since going through the immigration process to get her UK spousal visa.

This week on the OffKey Music Podcast, Linh Sa spoke to musician and Youtuber Haley Blais. Originally from Kelowna, Haley is now living in Vancouver, BC and was in Victoria for a few days to work on her upcoming album. Haley stopped by Membran Labs to chat with us about her upcoming US tour, how she got started in music, whether she is a Grace or Frankie, her band Babe Corner, and mostly importantly about the plot line of her upcoming musical about a sentient robot.

This week I sat down with Jocelyn Greenwood, the President of Cordova Bay Entertainment Group, a record label located in Victoria, BC. Jocelyn is also one of the founding members, and bassist of, alternative-rock band Jets Overhead. Jocelyn stopped by on a snowy day to talk about her experience working in the music industry, the role of record labels in the industry, and how her background as a musician has influenced her approach to the music industry.

Today I'm speaking with Sarah MacDougall, a singer-songwriter originally from Malmo, Sweden! Sarah was in Victoria just wrapping up her Trader Time show with Ivan Coyote, and was kind enough to stop by the Membran Labs studio for a quick chat despite the snow outside. We talked about how she got involved in music, Trader Time, and the inspiration behind her newest album "All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything."

This week on the OffKey Podcast, Linh Sa chats with R&B artist Quinn Bates (Quarterback). Originally from Kelowna BC, Quinn moved to Victoria to pursue classical music, and studied Opera at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Since making the move to the island Quinn has transitioned from classical music to R&B and walks us through what it was like to take the leap from the structure of school to the uncertainty of pursuing a career as a solo artist. Quinn also tells us about what he has in store for this year, and the importance of branding and authenticity.

For our first episode of the OffKey podcast, Linh Sa sits down with singer-songwriter Kirsten Ludwig. While Kirsten calls Calgary home, she has been living in Victoria for the last few years since the release of her first album, Drifting (2014). Having released her most recent album We Get It Now this past year, Kirsten tells us what it's like navigating the industry as an independent artist, how she got her start in music, and what is on the horizon for her in the future.
