The Gauteng Guitar Quartet, formed in 2024, comprises four of South Africa's leading classical guitarists: Dillon Davie, Ryan Kirsten, Jonathan Moolman, and Nathalie Roué. Combined, they bring a wealth of experience and musicianship to the concert stage. Internationally, guitar quartets are well-established as a favorite among concert-goers, but the Gauteng Guitar Quartet is the only performing quartet of this type in South Africa. The Gauteng Guitar Quartet is South Africa's only professional performing guitar quartet and they will be on stage at the Odeion in Bloemfontein on the 8th of October. A Breath of Winds is taking place at the Odeion in Bloemfontein on the 3rd of October. Under the baton of acclaimed Austrian-Italian conductor and composer Guido Mancusi, the concert places the expressive power of the woodwind family in the spotlight, with finalists of the International Woodwind Competition appearing as soloists. Coordinator of the competition Danré Strydom joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat to talk about this 3rd annual event. Sharon de Kock, violinist at the Free State Symphony Orchestra also joins in on the conversation to share their excitement about the finalists that will join them on stage. Cornerstone is the visual arts theme for Aardklop 2026, bringing together artists, studios and collectives from across South Africa in a celebration of the foundations of artistic practice. Inspired by the cornerstone as a symbol of beginning, strength and permanence, the theme explores traditional art-making practices as important systems of learning, mentorship and creative expression. Across the NWU Potchefstroom campus and The Roots Venue, the exhibition programme creates spaces where tradition and experimentation meet, inviting young and old to engage with locally rooted visual languages that contribute to broader conversations in contemporary art. “Sister Act” bring drie uitmuntende Suid-Afrikaanse musikante byeen – die fluitspeler Malané Hofmeyr-Burger, violis Zanta Hofmeyr en altviolis Jeanne-Louise Moolman. Saam beloof die drie dames ’n viering van vriendskap, musiek en die vreugde van saam optree. Malané Hofmeyr-Burger sluit by Yolanda Maartens aan in die OFM Kunsteklop om te gesels oor hul konsert op 10 September by die Odeion in Bloemfontein. Gehore kan uitsien na ’n betowerende kamermusiekprogram wat strek van die warmte en elegansie van Beethoven tot die ryk teksture van Max Reger, tesame met werke van Jan van Gilse en Franz Neubauer. Die Vrystaat Kunswedstryd Vereeniging leef nie net in ’n naam, ’n handboek, ’n program of ’n trofee nie. Dit leef in die kind wat ure lank oefen om vir die eerste keer op ’n verhoog te staan; in die onderwyser wat daardie kind aanmoedig; in die ouer wat wag, rondry en ondersteun; en in elke mens wat glo dat die kunste steeds ’n noodsaaklike plek in ons gemeenskap het. Op 4 September vind die grootste kuns gebeurtenis in Klerksdorp plaas! Die B Gallery in Michael straat bied hul: Miniatuur Avontuur uitstalling aan. “Tiny Treasures” is ‘n internasionale tendens om kuns meer toeganklik te maak en om oorspronklike kunswerke teen meer bekostigbare pryse aan te bied. Die klein kunswerke beteken ook dat kunsliefhebbers nie baie plek nodig het om die werke teen hul mure te versamel en uit te stal nie. Lizette Havenga van die B Gallery sluit by Yolanda Maartens aan in die OFM Kunsteklop. The Free State Youth Orchestra (FSYO) brings together senior school learners and university students who share a passion for orchestral performance and artistic excellence. FSYO flautist Rosslyn Sorour, violinist Andy Mogowane and clarinettist Emilie Grobbelaar joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat to talk about their concert on the 20th of September 2026. Die Odeion Skool vir Musiek (OSM) vier met trots hul 80ste bestaansjaar met 'n galakonsert wat hulde bring aan agt dekades van artistieke uitnemendheid, vernuwing en musiekonderrig.
