  • 'Violins for Peace' a safe haven for learning
    Violins for Peace aims to ensure their music programme aimed at young adults in the community of Bloemfontein not only provides them with valuable life-skills but also provides a platform of growth and fellowship.
    Project Curator, Sharon de Kock joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat to talk about the privilege of investing time and passion in the youth of the Free State. She also explains what some of their needs are and how the community can assist them to expand the project.

    Violins for Peace consists of 4 violin teachers who volunteer their time and knowledge to the children and young adults at St Patrick’s Church, Bloemfontein. These music sessions provide a positive outlet for the youth, creates a safe space and fosters trust among the students.

    Further to this, the programme provides opportunities for the students to attend professional rehearsals and concerts.

  • International Clarinet Extravaganza hosted in Bloemfontein
    Danre Strydom from the Odeion School of Music in Bloemfontein joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat to talk about this exciting festival. The objective of the festival is to expose South African clarinetists of all ages and levels as well as educators to current international clarinet trends, excellent artistry and the opportunity to receive masterclasses from top clarinet pedagogues.   • Leerder van Bloemfontein se sketse maak sy Kersdroom 'n werklikheid
    Schalk van der Merwe is 'n leerder van Grey College in Bloemfontein. Hierdie Desember wil hy graag visvang, dit is sy eerste liefde. Maar die jaar moes hy self die fondse bymekaar maak om tydens die lang skoolvakansie sy visvang drome te kan verwesenlik. Sy teken talent het hy by sy ma, bekende skilder, Marcia van der Merwe, gekry. Hy vertel watse tipe sketse hy graag teken en wat sy planne vir die toekoms behels.   • Artist from Klerksdorp wins grand prize in national art competition
    The ARTi Gallery in Klerksdorp recently hosted its first annual national art competition with the vision of making dreams come true in Africa. Michelle Thöle-van Zyl, ARTi Gallery Programme Director, joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat.

    The finalists in each of the categories were announced early in December with the gala event being hosted on the 9th of December 2023. Michelle proudly shares details about the overall winner’s art piece.

  • Victor Geduldt se kuns bring werkskepping en hoop na Brandfort
    Gebore in Bloemfontein het die Vrystater homself bemagtig deur kuns en het hy homself geleer hoe om te verf en te teken. Vandag help hy verskeie nie-winsgewende organisasies in Brandfort om deur kuns hul dorp te vervraai maar terselfde tyd ook werkloses die geleentheid te gee om 'n positiewe bydra in die gemeenskap te maak deur te verf en in die projek se groente tonnels te werk.   • Visual artists invited to participate in Africa-wide research
    Andani.Africa has embarked on a national study of the Visual Arts in South Africa for the first time since 2010. All visual artists are invited to participate. Karen Brusch from the Free State Art Collective is driving the research in the Free State and Northern Cape.
    Andani.Africa’s purpose is to grow and strengthen the Creative Economy in Africa. They do this by creating and co-creating valuable insights through research, strategic advisory and content engagement. Andani.Africa works within the intersection of tradition and culture that they like to call Data Humanism: African forms of storytelling that share insights and knowledge in the tradition of the oral histories of our forebears, and the technological advances afforded us by new digital forms of data analysis and visualisation, harnessing AI for African creative industries knowledge production. Die groepie stryk musikante gee hul tyd vir die liefde van die saak en vra ook dat die publiek hulle sal help om basiese items bymekaar te maak wat hulle tydens die gratis konserte kan oorhandig.   • BFN Children’s Choir hosts annual gala concert
    The Bloemfontein Children’s Choir invites you to their gala concert for 2023 taking place at the Odeion on the 12the of December. Headboy and headgirl of the choir joined conductor Werner Stander in studio to talk about this fantastic night in the OFM Art Beat.

    Headgirl Siphokazi Tshabalala is from St Michaels and headboy Josh Faber is from Hoerskool Sentraal. The two of them share their love for music and gratitude towards the choir and the opportunities they have had over the years.

  • UV Koor ontvang gesogte Grand Prix of Nations medalje in Swede
    Baie geluk aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat-koor vir hul uitstekende prestasie by die 5de Europese Koorspele 2023 in Norrköping, Swede. Onder die kundige leiding van hul dirigent, Werner Stander, en begelei deur Frelet de Villiers, het die koor merkwaardige sukses behaal.

    Die koor se toewyding en uitsonderlike talent is erken met die gesogte Grand Prix of Nations Goue Medalje, wat 'n indrukwekkende telling van 87,2% behaal het. Verder het hulle in verskeie kategorieë geskitter en oorwinning geëis in die Evangelie, Geestelike, Musiek van Gees en Geloof, en Folklore a cappella segmente.

    Hierdie merkwaardige prestasie is 'n bewys van die Universiteit van die Vrystaat-koor se verbintenis tot uitnemendheid en hul merkwaardige musikale vernuf. Kudos aan die hele koor vir hul merkwaardige prestasies op die Europese verhoog. Dirigent Werner Stander sluit by Mid-Morning Magic se Yolanda Maartens aan om te gesels oor die ongelooflike prestasie.
