This week, we're doing things a little differently. As you may know, June 19th is a holiday for many Black Americans known as Juneteenth, which is a celebration of when the news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 (yes, TWO YEARS after it had been signed!). Because it is a holiday that is all about liberation and Black joy, Sara sat this episode out and let Ty, Kathleen, and Ashia take us on a whole journey. We hope you enjoy learning about Kathleen and Ashia's enneagram numbers, their pop culture majors, and all their thoughts about Juneteenth.

We're closing out AAPI Heritage Month by talking to our friend Abigail Jackson, a Filipino-White web designer who graciously shares the story of how she received her batok (a traditional Filipino tattoo). She also shares her pop culture majors and thoughts about being an enneagram 4. We LOVED this conversation about all the different layers that make up a person, and hope it will inspire you to think about the different layers that make you YOU also.

When we started this podcast, we wanted to bring others along to our coffee chats where we're constantly learning from one another, particularly in the realms of pop culture, justice, and the enneagram. When we're talking, we seamlessly flow from one arena to another, because we find that justice is needed in pop culture, pop culture tells us about ourselves, and our own self-awareness informs how we pursue justice. Today we just wanted to update you on some of the things we've been learning recently! We'll cover things like the recent Hamilton criticisms, President Obama's book that came out last year, Sara's seminary program inside of a prison, and Ty's new small group called the Badass Grandmas.

For our next enneagram focused episode, we thought we'd explore how it interacts with other personality frameworks. All of these tools, when used together, can give us robust language for understanding ourselves and others. While we believe the enneagram is not a personality framework (which you'll hear about in the episode), we also see the utility of things like the Meyers Briggs, DISC, and Strengths Finder.
If you'd like more information on any one of these tools, here's where we'd recommend you go :
For Info:
Enneagram
Myers Briggs
DISC
Strengths Finder
For Tests:
(Disclaimer, we don't think that the enneagram works as well as a test, but it can be helpful for an entry point to learn about numbers. Don't assume the test gives you an accurate number though)

Yesterday was Mother's Day, and while we originally planned on having a discussion about women, femininity, and motherhood, we decided that maybe after all the feelings yesterday holds you might need a fun escape. ENTER A TWILIGHT DEEP DIVE! We watched some of these movies while we were together in March, and we have LOTS of thoughts! We're discussing the good, the bad, and the nuanced about the Twilight book and movie series.

We're back! After a couple of weeks off to process and recharge our creative tanks, we're dropping a BONUS episode with our friend Jax where we deep dive into the Oscars. Movies are Jax and Sara's POP CULTURE MAJORS! So Ty takes the interview seat (and jumps in with her own thoughts too!) and lets us go off into all our weird niches. In true OTMM form, this might be a conversation about an awards show, but we talk about fashion and body image, trans rights and representation, diversity vs equity, and so much more. Hey Google, play "All We Got" by Chance the Rapper!

If you've been tuning in over the last few weeks, you'll know that we've been diving into what resistance looks like. We've talked to John Caleb Pendleton about how to see flowers as resistance, and to Mary Beth Johnson about how to see food as resistance. This week, it's back to just being Sara and Ty as we talk to one another about how rest is resistance. We've loved hearing from you all about what these episodes stir up for you - have you been motivated to slow down and soak in the softness and beauty of flowers? Have you been curious to know what your own ancestral food history is? We spend a little bit of time processing our own reflections here.
Without rest, there is no resistance. We feel like we barely scratched the surface of this topic, and can't wait to hear how you all process it as well.
