Old Man Blerd - A Black Nerd Podcast

Terrance and John discuss Fan Expo and the commerce around conventions.

Have we aged out of going to Comicons?!  Can we still say Comicon without being sued?!?

Here it is!  A first episode (without the WHOLE group) of Politricks!  I was born on the 4th of July so it's fitting to release it today!

Join us for a roundtable discussing the day's events.  This episode is just Terrance and me from 'Old Man Blerd' hashing out the debate!

The debate raises some questions:

1. Is Oklahoma the Florida of the west?!

2. Is Steve Bannon a Demilich and if so, where is his phylactery?! (D and D heads know!)

3. Are black Republicans Affirmative Action hires?

4. What are Black Jobs?!?  Please explain it to us.

Terrance and John discuss the suspension of belief necessary to enjoy various intellectual pop culture properties.

The Blerds also come\ up with the perfect story to fix Superman for the modern age!

We're Back!  This episode is our first with a special guest! An adult fan of Lego who goes by blackmachine312, Etienne Goyer has been a fan for years and spends some time with Terrance and me discussing the past, present, and future of Lego!

We also discuss other topics such as One Piece! (SPOILERS!), X-men, San Diego ComicCon and Spider-punk!

As aging geeks, we sometimes have feelings change about properties...This should be embraced just as our sisters and mothers embrace aging gracefully.

The title of this is meant as no disrespect or slight towards our mothers, sisters, and aunties but nerds need to take a page from their book and let some stuff go! (Do you really NEED to have an opinion on Stellar Blade?!)

Terrance was out last week so this was just a solo me waxing about aging on April 21st  in the world of Blerd! Was this an unlucky 13th episode? Between my puppy and a missing Terrance, and only getting it up now, maybe!

We talk about Terrance finally getting a Nintendo Switch!  Some discussion over the casting of Julia Garner to play the Silver Surfer. What will all the emo boys do now that the character has cooties in their eyes?!

Did You Ever Dance with the House of Mouse in the Pale Moonlight? That's what we WERE going to call this episode as we live in fear of Disney! The House of Mouse, owns, yes OWNS! ALL OF YOUR CHILDHOOD! Will they come after us?  Probably not. We discuss some potentially cynical motivations they have about intellectual properties.

Sure, only a few people will get the title joke (Lost in Space? Will Robinson?? Robbie the Robot?!) but this episode is on the dangers of geekdom as it pertains to intellectual property. Not as dry as it sounds.

Plus ANOTHER Godzilla movie.

Akira Toriyama, the creator of the "Dragon Ball" franchise (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super etc), passed away on March 1st and we're shook.  He created arguably the most influential manga and anime (and, maybe the blackest anime? Sorry, Afro Samurai!)

Having created the archetypical step-dad (the father that stepped up) in Piccolo and the troublesome Mr. Popo (ah, Sambo lives with us STILL). Toriyama captivated the early blerd anime community.

We celebrate and ruminate on his going home day and his legacy.  Please like and subscribe!

This one goes LONG! Terrence and John have an extended "Dope or Nope" session about movies, James Gunn, and geek subjects ad infinitum.  And that pesky Woke thing rears its persistent head!  A little One Piece Card game, a little Superman, a fair dollop of Fantastic Four, and are we(or you?) done with superhero movies?!

And as the title of the pod implicitly expresses, we're older and we forget a name or two ( or three...we lost count!)

Terrence and John talk long about Woke and the occasionally disingenuous nature of it.  A  bit of a Star Wars rant, a bit of a Will Smith rant, and more!  Also, a quickie non-spoiler review of "Godzilla Minus One"
