We see Paul and Barnabas at Iconium where there is a Synagogue. You see both Jews and Greek speaking Gentiles who fear the God of Jews. Paul presented the Gospel effectively and boldly. The result is that GREAT number of them believed the Gospel. As usual this divided the congregation and those who did not believe stirred up the crowd and planned to insult Paul and to stone them. After knowing about the plot they fled to Lystra.

Paul's preaching to the Jewish synagogue in Pisidian Antioch. It's very brief, if we stick to the text, it will take about 3 minutes to speak it out. By that what we mean is that Luke is giving a sample of Paul's message. It is not the entire message. One can find similarities between this one and the messages preached by Peter and Stephen! We see Holy Spirit is the leader from divine side of things and Barnabas and Paul were chosen by, lead by, directed by, controlled (filled with Holy Spirit). Firstly, we see government of the Church by the Holy Spirit and people who are set apart by Him are the vessels through whom he flows. We see how Paul confronts Elymas in the power of the Holy Spirit.

If we follow the theme of Luke of showing Peter's life and Paul's life on equal footing, this chapter is somewhat closing the life of Peter, even though we will see him once more in chapter 15. Luke is showing how the Jews were uniting with the state or the other way and targeting the Christians and persecuting. On one hand, we see Herod misuse his power to execute apostle James, we see the Lord executing Herod in an instant judgement!

The gospel goes global in this chapter! Some (people) one decided to share the gospel with Greeks in Antioch. Until now it was shared with Jews only or with those who are sympathetic with Jewish faith. Most interesting thing about this is that there is no angel involved or a Vision from the Holy Spirit. We are stepping into the New Testament mission work, whoever decides to become that "someone" who decides to share the gospel. Many became believers. This expression you see three times. Then, we learn about Barnabas and many became believers. If one is a disciple, they should be sharing Christ!

There arose dispute in Jerusalem church that Peter a circumcised Jew has entered into a gentiles home, that is Cornelius! You can read the repeated story for the second time in this chapter. What settled the matter was that they received the Holy Spirit and it happened just as at the beginning! This gift has vertically divided the church.....

When Alexander Dowie was a pastor in Sydney a bubonic plague killed many people. More than 40 of his congregation were dead already and three more ready to be buried. He was talking to God and asking is it the same God he reads about in both Old and New Testament who does miracles? Then, the Holy Spirit brought to his heart Acts 10:38. Immediately Dowie saw that Jesus is the healer while Devil is the one who brought sickness. Then, two people came running that he is required by the bed side of a young lady who was dying. He laid hands on her and prayed and immediately she went into a beautiful sleep. The mother of the young girl asked, is she dead. Dowie replied "No". On tapping the sleeping girl, she opened her eyes and apologised for sleeping too long. Fever was gone and completely healed. That's how, healing ministry was discovered by him.

Gospel was spreading very fast, due to persecution it began to go all over Roman Empire, and God used Philip to share the gospel to the Ethiopian eunuch, into Samaria etc. But the church has not got the vision to take the gospel to gentiles. So, the Lord sends an angel to talk to Cornelius and the Holy Spirit communicates to Peter through a trance. The big wall dividing Jews and Gentiles is broken. We will see this story repeated three times, that shows its importance.

Peter's two miracles have something for us to know. While he was quick to command healing saying "Aeneus, Jesus Christ heals you. take care of your bed", he was not so quick with dead Tabitha. He knelt down and prayed. What can we learn from this?
