How did Peter and John heal the crippled man? He said, why are you astonished? As though we have made this man whole by our power or godliness. He moved their attention from themselves to Jesus Christ. By faith in His name you see this man healed. There is power in the name of Jesus. Secondly, we who believe are in union with Jesus Christ. That union is just not positional, but it has practical application. As you are joined to Jesus, let his power flow through you.

Acts 2:43 many miracles were done through the hands of the apostles. So, in Acts 3, Luke gives us such an event which was significant and had more impact and consequences. He was born crippled and his family would set him down at the stairway to the temple called 'Beautiful'. Peter and John spoke to him and Peter spoke those memorable words, "silver and gold have I none, such as I have I give thee, in the name of Jesus Christ rise up and walk".

Most of the religious leaders were Sadducees who did not believe in resurrection, angels etc. So they wanted to trap Jesus and posed a hypothetical question. Jesus responded saying you neither know the power of God not do you understand scriptures. St.Paul has much to say about resurrection but it all came from his encounter with resurrected Jesus.

In these verses, Peter's explanation of the phenomena of tongues continues. He builds his case by proving that Jesus rose again from the dead. He demonstrates how God (Elohim) approved Jesus by raising him from the dead. He goes on to prove that the resurrection of Jesus is in fulfilment of prophecy by King David. In verse 32 Peter makes the statement that he is willing to pay for this truth by his life by saying we are witnesses!

When the people saw the disciples speaking in tongues they concluded they were drunk with sweet wine. Peter perceived what is being said and decided to give a defence about the reality. It was a festival season, people were fasting, praying to celebrate the barley harvest. They would drink mostly with dinner. It was 9am too early to be drunk. So, Peter says, what you are seeing is fulfilment of the prophecy of prophet Joel.

Every word Luke uses in his first chapter is very precious. Jesus being taken up into heaven is mentioned three times in the first chapter (vs 2,9,11). It gives an insight into ending of Jesus life on the earth and beginning of his life in Heaven, it gives a closure to the matter unlike Elijah after being caught up into heaven by a chariot of fire, the men of the school of prophets wanted to search for his body. The disciples are witnesses of his ascension. This is crucial for their faith and joy. They worshipped Jesus who was not present in a physical form to them and were full of joy.
