Hosea is a prophet who walked his talk! He loved the wayward woman and had children through her. One of them is names Lo-Ruhama meaning I will not show compassion. Having gone through major confrontation, having pronounced the judgement, now he is pouring out God's love. the Lord's judgement is reversed, now they will receive compassion from Yahweh.

The call to Israel is to return to the Lord! How would one return and what are the blessings that follow such turning back to God!

The word "die" occurs about 300 times in the Bible (NIV). v1 ends saying Ephraim 'died'! How did he die? Because of Baal worship. When anyone moves away from worshipping the true and only God death comes, first spiritual and physical death later.

Jacob or Israel says, I am going to die, but do not bury me here instead take my body to the land of Canaan. Hope of Canaan takes away the fear of death. Likewise, Joseph says, I am going to die. But, the Lord will visit and take you to the promised land. Then, do not forget to carry my bones. That is faith. Which, came to pass after nearly 400 years

In the book of Hosea, chapter 11 gives us a revelation of the heart of God towards Israel. He has denounced their sin in all these previous chapters. Now you get to peep into the heart of God: His unchangeableness, transcendence and Immanence.

If you read Hosea 10 in KJV, you will not find the Lord's name mentioned much. Instead you will find the personal pronouns "He" and "I" but you need to distinguish when it refers to the Lord and when it refers to others in the text. So, what do we infer from it? This chapter deals mainly with Israel's sin.

Israel says "we don't have a king because we did not revere the Lord". When they reject the King, they are rejecting God. They did reject the King of kings and Lord of Lord's Jesus Christ. When he was carrying the cross, he looked at some women who were crying: "don't weep for me, weep for yourselves and your children". The days are coming when "they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!"" It is found again in Rev 6:16. This is an event which is yet to happen!

Ephraim is used 6 times and Israel is used 3 times in this chapter. Same way the name of God, the Lord is used 5 times and God is used 4 times. A simple addition gives us the number 9 for each of Ephraim and the Lord. That is the first theme "the relationship between the Lord and Israel"!

Three times the words " the house of the Lord " is used in vs 4,6,15. When they reject the Lord, they also reject his prophets. Prophets are Prophets are rejected, ill-treated, insulted, sometimes killed as well. He uses pictures to describe the condition of Israel: grapes in desert, first ripe figs, glory flying away like a bird and blight afflicting a crop etc.
