Prophet Hosea continues his brilliant barrage of words and pictures to lift up the sins of Israel. Sin is forming a barrier for God to heal them. They are like burning oven with adultery, idolatry, etc. His use of powerful similes and metaphors makes it very colourful. v8 Ephraim is a flat cake not turned over, v11 Ephraim is like a dove, easily deceived and senseless, I will throw a net and catch them as a prepared hunter, lastly in v16 he says they are like a faulty bow. The Lord is bringing a charge against the Israelites: no faithfulness,

no love and no knowledge of God! How many of us would be able to talk about who our God is if someone from another faith would ask us? How many minutes would we last talking about Him. This is a general lack in the modern church. That is also the main charge against Priests of his time. May I say it could be a reason for many servants of God to be weak and unsteady in their walk. Hosea is mentioned as a minor prophet because of the length of his prophecy. His ministry stretched for over 60 years like that of Isaiah, Amos and Micah. His life is a message. He was asked by the Lord to marry a prostitute. Some think it happened only in his mind meaning in his visions but not in life. But many commentators feel that he in deed married Gomor (meaning perfect ) who probably was from such a background. However, 1:3 says she bore him a son. He was the father of Jezreel. But such reference is missing in verses 6 and 8. His calling to be a prophet was at a great cost to his life. Please stay tuned in.
