What's up G A M E R S you ready to get mone'd up with some hot docked dams lookin to IMMERSE in the game and extrapolate evolutionary cycles that lead to genocide?? Then you're in luck, because K.A. Applegate added a supremely weird appendage to the Animorphs teen chapter book series (and hit tv show) that is The Ellimist Chronicles: a voyage across a galaxy, a millennium, and the very boundaries of consciousness and existence. What happens when gamers become gods?
As usual, I (Jay) got way too sloshed because I was excited to talk Ellimist, so sorry that I'm absolutely obnoxious. If you'd like to berate me for my bad habits or know of some other young readers' classics you'd like us to visit on On Air Book Fair, send us an email at [email protected] or even a voice message at anchor.fm/onairbookfair!
Grandma Bone gets faded off that soft serve!
A week late once again, we pour one out for legendary children's book creator and illustrator Eric Carle. In the conclusion of Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy, the kids make a list of actionable plans, Uncle Patton drinks tea and kills a spectre, and Dr. Bloor does a no-growth. Strap on your spider toe puppet for another round of point-and-click-adventure logic in the Children of the Red King series.

Next week, we're reading K.A. Applegate's Animorphs: The Ellemist Cronicles for a--quite literally--Galaxy-Brain Adventure. Visit your local library to read along with us!
Rough and uninteresting edit done quickly because I'm out of town.
This week, the nerds are talking invisibility dynamics, good moments from Star Wars Prequels, and the culinary exploits of Unnamed British Town's most Endowed Dumb Child. Fuckin oh no charlie you let Skarpo out of the painting this is the last thing I needed.
Shoot us any thoughts you have about teen books or our podcast to [email protected] or send us a voice message on Anchor.fm to get put up on the podcast!
What EVER
Ohhhh my dear Henry have you heard about these Dixie Chicks, they're quite the heart-throbs of American "country" music but they've come into quite hot water due to some opinions about military involvement in the former Ottoman Empire!
This week, we wrap up the second Children of the Red King book, though focused on time-travel, has very little time-travel going on and they almost entirely seem to forget it in favor of other little subplots.
Heyyyy send us an email at [email protected] or find the button to send us a message on Anchor.fm, we'd love to hear from you. Next time, we'll read another Charlie Bone book, or maybe anything else? Who knows, stay tuned.
A later episode because James has been moving for the last two weeks and then had nanomachines disease! We're also still fussing real hard with audio normalcy so thank you for your patience if anything's whack.
In the second installment of the Children of the Red King saga, Charlie's missing great great uncle gets warped from the days of Birth of a Nation (1915) to Snow Dogs (2002). Which of those was more detrimental to the cultural perception of black Americans? These are the questions that must be asked, alongside "who can calm down the thor kid?", "how do does a pet cafe work when it's bring-your-own-pet?" and [tom delonge voice] "WHERE ARE YEWWW?"
If you have any answers to these, send them to [email protected] or send us a message thru anchor.fm, our host site.
This week, we finish up the first Charlie Bone book!
An evil lady impersonates a child services official, someone gets locked in an attic, and an old man yells at a teapot. I don't think it turned out super great, and Jamie had clearly been watching too many videos about Rudy Ray Moore films. We're trying out different audio setups and these are the growing pains of a podcast.
In our inaugural episode, we jump into the book series that inspired this project, The Children of the Red King series, starting with its first book Midnight for Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo. We read through the chapter Clues At Last and stop before the chapter Mind Games. If you'd like to read along with us, you can probably find this book at your local library, but we cover most of the plot in a followable way.
If you've got any reactions, comments, suggestions, questions or whatever to say, drop us a line at [email protected]. Also, I think out host website Anchor allows you to send us voice messages that we can feature on the show! Do you have any theories about how the mysteries of the Charlie Bone universe will resolve? You can be just as clueless as we are (except Miles, he knows the reveals).
Our intro/outro music is the song Nostalgia by Brian Altano from his multimedia project, Weird Heat. We're on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Play and who knows what other kind of podcast distribution platforms. Are we not on your podcast app? Let us know so Jamie can figure out how to send the RSS feed somewhere. Thanks for listening!
Hello and welcome to On Air Book Fair, a podcast where grown adults revisit books from their childhoods. In the first batch of episodes, we'll be reading through the Children of the Red King series by Jenny Nimmo, and for our first episode, we read through about half the first in the series "Midnight for Charlie Bone" up to the chapter Mind Games.
This is an 18+ podcast and while the books are recommended for minors, our foul mouths and crass humor is NOT. If you'd like to follow along with us, Midnight for Charlie Bone is not a difficult read, and can probably be found at your local library. When was the last time you went to the library? If you have any reactions, comments or suggestions, feel free to drop us a line at [email protected]
The music you heard is Nostalgia By Brian Altano, from his multimedia project Weird Heat.
