    Dr. Ashleigh Huffman is an experienced educator, public speaker, entrepreneur, and author in the Sport for Social Change and Women's Empowerment movements. Ashleigh is passionate about gender equality, human rights, access and inclusion, and has worked in more than 80 countries using sports to achieve these ideals.

    Ashleigh's co-led efforts on the global sports mentoring program resulted in the 2018 ESPN Stuart Scott Humanitarian Award and the 2018 Peace and Sport Diplomatic Action of the Year.

    Throughout her career, Ashleigh has worked across sectors with athletes, corporates, government, and nonprofits to create holistic and sustainable models for social change. She has trained more than 10,000 leaders across the world in sports-based social innovation strategies and worked with more than 50 companies to promote global women's empowerment, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and refugee integration.

    In her current role with the U.S. Department of State, Ashleigh educates and equips professional, Olympic, Paralympic, and university athletes to use their passion and platform as a force for good. She works with sports leagues, federations, and corporates to see sport, not only as an international market for economic transaction, but social transformation.

    Ashleigh is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Ph.D. in socio-cultural studies and was the captain of her basketball team at Eastern Kentucky University.

  • Episode 39: Discussing Voting Rights and Why Your Vote Matters with Donita Judge, Associate Executive Director, Center for Constitutional Rights

    Donita is the Associate Executive Director at the Center for Constitutional Rights, where she has responsibility for the organization’s operational planning and provides leadership in the implementation of its strategic vision and goals. Prior to joining the Center for Constitutional Rights, she was co-director of Advancement Project Nationals’ Power and Democracy Program in Washington, D.C. and served in several management roles and strategic planning sessions focused on sharpening the organization’s program goals.

    She was co-counsel in multiple national voting rights cases, including the 2016 landmark North Carolina voter suppression case, NAACP v. McCrory. In 2008, she successfully challenged the lack of due process for 600,000 Ohio voters in advance of the 2008 general election and prevented their removal from the voter rolls.

    She has a law degree from Rutgers University Law School in Newark, NJ and is a Kinoy/Stavis Fellow. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers University in Newark. She is the recipient of many awards, including the 2014 Garden State Bar Association’s Oliver Randolph Award, celebrating the legacy of a civil rights advocate who, in 1914, became New Jersey’s first African American admitted to practice law in the state, and the 2017 Rutgers Newark National Lawyers’ Guild “Arthur Kinoy Award.”

    During the university’s 250-year anniversary celebration in 2016, she was selected as a Rutgers University Fellow, the university’s highest award. Media company ROI-NJ awarded Donita the 2020 Person of Color Return on Influence, Impact, and Investment honor.

    Currently, she is the vice chairperson of the New Jersey Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and a National Board Member of the American Civil Liberties Union.

  • Episode 37: Belonging is the Key to DE&I Efforts. An interview with Reggie Shuford, Executive Director of the ACLU-PA

    Reggie Shuford is the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Pennsylvania. Reggie has been with ACLU-PA since September 2011. Before that, he served as the director of law and policy at the Equal Justice Society (EJS), a national strategy group heightening consciousness on race in the law and popular discourse.

    From 1995-2010, Reggie served as senior staff counsel in the national ACLU's Racial Justice Program. During his tenure there, he helped to pioneer legal challenges to racial profiling practices nationwide.

    He was the ACLU's chief litigator in challenges to racial profiling, leading national litigation efforts and consulting with ACLU state affiliates and others in cases of "driving while black or brown," airport profiling, and profiling related to the war on terror.

    Reggie is a graduate of the University of North Carolina's School of Law in Chapel Hill, where he was his graduating class president.

    Soumya Nettimi is the CEO of ASG LegalTech, a legal technology business that includes three leading software solutions – PracticePanther, Bill4Time, and MerusCase. Soumya started as CEO of PracticePanther in September 2018 and in early 2019 formed ASG LegalTech with the addition of Bill4Time and MerusCase. These platforms help lawyers and law firms manage and grow their businesses. They automate and streamline many aspects of running a law firm, including time tracking, workflow management, invoicing, and billing, so lawyers can spend less time managing their firms and more time practicing law. In addition, because all their software is cloud-based, they have allowed firms to seamlessly transition from working in offices to working remotely during COVID-19.

    Soumya began her career as an investor at Blackstone, where she evaluated new investment opportunities and oversaw portfolio companies in the consumer and technology industries. After Blackstone, she helped launch a new investment fund called Protea Investments and then served in a management role at Serena & Lily, Protea’s first portfolio company based in the Bay Area. She also spent short stints in product management at Amazon Web Services and at Bridge International Academies, a network of schools in Kenya.

    Soumya is from the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and recently moved back to New York after many years in the Bay Area. She lives with her fiancée and spends a lot of her free time with her newborn nephew. She received an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University.
