It’s true. Artists are often subject to the extremes when it comes to the full spectrum of human emotions; just like the “artist stereotype” implies. The lows can be pretty dark. We believe that is because we also get the experience of really amplified highs! In this episode, we attempt to tackle the subject of dealing with depression in the performing arts. We treat this subject with respect and even address our own personal bouts and some techniques and practices we use to climb back out of the dumps.

One of the things we stress is that it truly is important to talk to or with someone.

Since the days of Vaudeville (and long before), two things are undeniably synonymous: Showbiz and Booze.
The foundation of our relationship is the former. Both of us have been on stage for most of our lives. In fact, sharing the spotlight is how we met… but many of our first dates included a drink or three.
We have also each, separately experienced destroyed relationships and abandonment of human connections over substance abuse. In this episode we explore this subject and, importantly, answer the question, can two people maintain a healthy romantic relationship when only one of them drinks alcohol?

There was one show that taught us everything we needed to know about producing a burlesque show. It was Bunny Brigade, a tribute to the Playboy Bunnies. In this episode we share some of the roadblocks we experienced while trying to bring this show to the stage as well as why we put it in the vault and no longer produce burlesque. Phelyx interjecting here... This was a unique burlesque show that offered the whole of my (at the time) eleven years in the craft (I survived an additional couple of years). We applied all of that experience, plus the collective experience of a total of seven craftspeople from the neo-burlesque world in the creation and production of this show. If I can say so myself, this was decidedly high art in a low-brow art form that could have even been syndicated. I wish you could have been there. It was, unquestionably one of my all-time favorite collaborations. Oh, how I wish I could share the whole thing with you. An understated and tragically underestimated (by venue owners) masterwork. This, I believe, was the key to elevating burlesque from a bucket-list hobby to true art... and it broke us.
