  • EP 17: He Took Off His Skin For Me (2014) / Cutting Moments (1996)
We know, we know...the co-hosts said that this episode was supposed to be about the new sci-fi horror, Life, but Minki couldn’t find it to download or stream and Tracy didn’t want to run through the movie alone...so, they’ll do it another time! Instead, they chose to watch two gruesome short horror films, one new and one a bit old yet forever memorable, both delving into the darker side of relationships.
Practical SFX in both are downright solid, the first taking 8 hours to get a guy to look like he has no skin on him and the second...well, does the name Tom Savini ring a bell? Tracy, the usual horror short hater, really enjoyed both of these while Minki was a little more critical but overall pleased with the double feature. BONUS: they discuss their Friday night spent with the ladies from MY FAVORITE MURDER at the Warner Theatre in Washington DC. Minki tries to poke holes in Tracy’s fandom but this murderino ain’t having it. Karen and Georgia all day every day.

  • EP 16: Cherry Falls (2000)
If every extra was named in the credits, this movie would include “Blurry Asian Kid #1” because our very own Minki Kim stars in this teenage slasher flick...which means he pops up in the background for a split second during a high school fight scene between a boyfriend and girlfriend. Don’t blink if you watch it to find him! But hey, the actress in the scene was Cybill Shepherd’s daughter and he was on set with the late great Brittany Murphy, and that’s pretty cool. So, this episode begins with a discussion about Minki’s brush with Hollywood and how Tracy “FALLS” all of the time. The two get into how this movie (which seems to be influenced by Psycho, Scream, and Prom Night), takes the typical horror trope of “only the virgins survive” and flips it on its head. The premise is promising but given the handful of ridiculous scenes and poor writing decisions, it’s no wonder why this movie was rejected by the MPAA for theatrical release and forced to go straight to VHS/DVD for distribution. In any case, the hosts enjoy talking about awkward sex-seeking teens who do their best to not get hacked up by a mystery murderer in this made up town in Virginia. Grab a cherry blossom lager and join this cherry poppin’ party. And don’t forget to email us and give us a movie recommendation!

  • EP 15: The Void (2017)
Minki and Tracy first discuss an outing they took to see comedian, Rachel Feinstein. They do a poor job of describing her jokes and funnyness...but you should still check her out. Then they stumble through their first Skype chat as they discuss this throwback to 80’s horror films, oozing of Lovecraft, Barker and Carpenter influence. Tracy once again tries to put a rationale on the movie, and Minki isn’t sold. Thanks to a dedicated listener, the mail jingle is back! Keep it alive and email us with the first horror movie you remember watching...or a movie recommendation you’d like to hear us talk about. Next time, we watch Cherry Falls, where Minki apparently was an extra. Tracy must view and heckle.

  • EP 14: Dumplings (2004)
Warning: Even in the realm of horror, this movie is not for the faint of heart. It cuts to the chase right after the credits with a familiar theme of cannibalism, coming out of last episode’s discussion of Raw, but this movie takes carnivorism of humans to a whole new...and smaller level. Minki and Tracy discuss how this full length movie revolving around curiously stuffed dumplings that provide everlasting youth, probably should’ve remained the short film that it started as, in the Asian horror trilogy, Three Extremes. They also talk about bad dubbing, terrible sex scenes, annoying characters and the general ridiculousness of the story line. We find out that Tracy once ate a live goldfish, but would never eat balut, and that the hosts will have their first live show in June in the Washington, D.C. area. ALSO, bring the “jingle” back and email us!

  • EP 13: RAW (2016)
Have you ever been so disgusted by a horror movie you passed out or vomited? Doubtful. But, apparently this cannibal, coming-of-age, horror drama made people do just that. So, Tracy and Minki had to make a trip to the theater and check it out. Given they got away without puking up their chicken tenders and tater tots, they think it was just PR, but they still enjoyed this french flick anyhow. They run through a bunch of movies that had the same reputation of needing a barf bag in lieu of a popcorn bag and they both share a couple of movie scenes that, at the very least, left a personal memory of total discomfort for them. So, if you don’t like reading subtitles and/or if you don’t think you can watch a young girl eat raw meat, take a few bites out of a couple people, or get her bikini waxed from a very close view, you should probably just listen to the hosts talk about it all instead. And if you don’t want them to spoil it, go check out this beautifully directed movie first and then come back and share in the discussion. Have an opinion about the movie...episode...podcast...Minki’s voice? Write us! NEXT WEEK: Dumplings, which is the first recommendation by a fan!

  • EP 12: DRACULA 3000 (2004)
While Tracy was away on travel in South Africa, Minki found a few horror movies either made by a South African, filmed in South Africa or about South Africa to watch upon her return. This movie, co-written and directed by South African Darrell Roodt, might be the worst movie ever to be associated with the country. And despite the fact that it includes Udo Kier, Coolio, Deebo from Friday, Bay Watch babe Erika Eleniak and Casper Van Dien on its roster, it might be the worst movie ever made! But, as we’ve learned, some of the worst movies make for the best conversations between the hosts. So, tune in and hear these two discuss the overt racism, sexism and cheesy-ass lines written into this mind-numbing script. Bram Stoker would smack someone silly over this rip-off which takes place in the future, in space...which provides the opportunity for Tracy to talk about her fear of space which Minki diagnoses as spacephobia. They also discuss her fear of fish and water, her recent trip to the highest bungee jump bridge in the world and Minki apparently has no fears. He only fears that someone else may watch this awful movie. The listener mail is top notch and Tracy pleads for more mail! So, write in.

  • EP 11: XX Part 2 (2017)
They’re baaaack and ready to continue the conversation from episode 10. But first, Minki shares a blood orange beer adorned with an illustration of Jason Voorhees with Tracy and then Tracy shares a horror anthology graphic novel called Through the Woods, written and illustrated by Emily Carroll. After that, they both share their thoughts on the final two stories, which they believe are the “horror-iest” of the four stories from the female-led horror anthology, XX. We’ve got a demonic possession story set in the desert (Don’t Fall by Roxanne Benjamin) and a Rosemary’s Baby-type story (Her Only Living Son by Karen Kusama). Also, don’t touch Minki’s iPad.

  • EP 10: XX Part 1 (2017)
Following up on the conversation about Karen Kusama in the Women in Horror Month Special Episode, Minki and Tracy discuss the first two stories from the horror anthology, XX. Written, directed and produced by women, and starring only female leads, this set of horror shorts provide the hosts with material to incite a fun discussion, even if Tracy feels like it’s yet another collection of slightly unfinished, unfulfilling and not-quite-horror stories. It’s no Creepshow. Oh, yeah, and Tracy made it back from South Africa, so she’s alive and Minki still has a co-host. Join them for one more scare...until they’re back next week with a discussion of the final two stories from XX.

  • EP 09: Sadako VS Kayako / Ring VS Grudge (2016)
Get ready... It’s a VERSUS movie this week, which pin the vengeful ghosts from two of the most popular Japanese horrors of all time against each other for an all out battle over who has the wildest long black hair and who has the strongest curse. Minki recaps the premises of the originals before he and Tracy dive into the main event. Given this movie was created nearly two decades after the originals, we see how a curse can adapt in a newer digital age, but besides that, the movie was mainly a revival of our favorite parts of Ring/Ringu or Grudge/Ju-on. Place your bets on the winning ghoul and learn about a few fascinating Japanese urban legends as Tracy schools us on ghosts that haunt public bathrooms and murder little kids.
