One Flesh, One End episodes

  • 22. For the Ninth!

In our penultimate Gideon the Ninth recap episode (yes, we're really almost there!!), we look at the last half of Chapter 36, in which the fight against Cytherea concludes with Gideon's sacrifice. We also covered the so-called Western Conference of the first round of our "most iconic lines from Gideon the Ninth" tournament bracket, and continued our discussion of the apocalypse and resurrection in the series, looking at the significance of a nuclear apocalypse specifically within a New Zealand context.

    * SPOILER ALERT * We reference events from all three books in this podcast, as it’s intended for readers who are caught up with the series.

  • 21. We Do Bones, Motherf*cker

The battle with Cytherea errupts as we recap the first half of Chapter 36 in this episode, followed by a dive into a tournament bracket of the most iconic lines in Gideon the Ninth, since we're so close to the end of this book (!!). Then we're taking a step back in time to discuss the timeline of the nuclear apocalypse and resurrection ten thousand years before the events of GTN—the first part of what will be a multi-episode discussion. We're almost there!

    * SPOILER ALERT * We reference events from all three books in this podcast, as it’s intended for readers who are caught up with the series.

  • 19. She Could Have Taken Me

Uh oh, sisters! In this episode, we’re reconnecting with the world’s most normal twins. Chapter 34 finds us in the Seventh House’s lyctoral lab with Ianthe, Corona, and Babs’ dead body. Ianthe performs her villain monologue, reveals Corona’s “bad, sad, secret,” and commits a little light self-defence killing to follow up her main course of first-degree murder. We then take another Nine Houses sorting quiz and get a bit off topic, and wrap up with a discussion of the theory that Corona may have been Ianthe’s “true” cavalier.

  • 18. Hit It With Your Sword

It’s been a minute, but we’re diving back into GIDEON THE NINTH! In this episode, we pick up our reread with Chapters 32 and 33, in which Gideon, Harrow, Pal, and Cam team up to explore a new room, Second House tragedies occur, and we find the last key inside Abigail’s corpse. We rated some hilarious descriptions of The Locked Tomb series from Tumblr users who’ve never read the books, and then it was time to talk keys and trials: What are the different trials in Canaan House and which lyctors created them? Which characters in Gideon the Ninth have which keys at which point in the book? And at what point does Harrow learn each step of the lyctoral process? We tried to puzzle it out!

     * SPOILER ALERT * We reference events from all three books in this podcast, as it’s intended for readers who are caught up with the series.

  • Bonus: Do You Know Who I Am Yet? (Part 2)

We still have so much more to say about Nona the Ninth! After gushing over two characters we hadn't got to yet—Pyrrha and Pash!—we evaluated how well we did overall in our previous Nona theories episode and discussed the major plot developments and new information gained in this book. We took a fun new Nona quiz, acknowledged a new Kiss Truther scene you may have missed (we certainly did on our first reads!), and yes, if you saw our tweet, this episode also has a Big Goose.

    * SPOILER ALERT * We reference events from Gideon the Ninth , Harrow the Ninth, and Nona the Ninth in this podcast, as it’s intended for readers who’ve already finished all three books.

  • Bonus: Do You Know Who I Am Yet?

It's another bonus episode all about Nona the Ninth! (Sort of.) This episode is focused on the biggest theories and questions we had going into Nona and was recorded before we read it, so there aren't any spoilers or discussion of events past the excerpts released before publication. Although the book's obviously out now, we decided to resurrect this bonus episode from the dead, if you will, in order to establish what our expectations were going into Nona and give an overview of some of the biggest theories that were out there. Our next bonus episode will follow up on this as we take a look at what we were right and wrong about in Nona—and all the new questions we have.

    * SPOILER ALERT * We reference events from Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth in this podcast, as it’s intended for readers who’ve already finished both books.

If you like the episode, find us on Twitter, Tumblr, or TikTok @onefleshonepod or e-mail [email protected] with any questions or theories!
