    Ryan Lowery discusses the Alzheimer's brain and fats we should be feeding our brain to lower the possibilities of early Alzheimer's.

    Here are a few questions Daniel Tague answers on blood flow restrictions:

    * What is blood flow restriction?
    a. A technique to restrict blood flow to the veins but not the arteries
    b. You basically trap blood in the targeted muscle (pump)
    c. Causes lactic acid to get trapped in the muscle

  • Aug 29th 2017 – Allergies – Natural Disasters - One Life Radio Podcast
    Today we talk with Sherry Torkos on allergies vs. intolerances, and we talk with Robin Perry Braun on what causes humans to step out of themselves during natural disasters.

    Here are some questions Sherry Torkos provides and answers:

    How can you tell the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance?
    What is a histamine intolerance? What are histamines? Why do weneed them?
    Who is most at risk of having a histamine intolerance? Is there a test to diagnose a histamine intolerance?
    If you have a histamine intolerance, what foods and drugs should you AVOID?
    If you have a histamine intolerance, what foods and lifestyle choices should you ALLOW into your daily routine?

    Here are a few questions Robin Perry Braun answers on natural disasters and Maslow's hierarchy of needs:

    * What do natural disasters trigger?
    1. People feel helpless and out of control. The next step when we feel this is to surrender – we make a mental shift to change our values system – we step our of our daily self centered drive to make money and are brought back to a state of basic needs.
    2. It brings us back to Maslows hierarchy of needs to the most basic needs

    * What is Maslow's Hierarchy of needs?
    1. This is a pyramid of needs in order of priority to the human soul.
    2. When our world is rocked and we are reduced to the lower levels of need, we step out of the higher levels and surrender to focus on the lower levels.   It triggers the survival instinct and we are moved to help those two basic levels.

    * What accounts for the rising rate of autism diagnoses?
    * How much "screen time" is healthy for young children?
    * How does extended hours of screen time affect a child's cognitive development?

    Here are some questions we ask Jill Lane about The Top Things Parents Can do to get their Kids (Student Athletes) Immune System Ready for "Back to School”

    Goal #1 not get sick

    Goal #2 if they get sick that they don’t get it as bad or for as long

    * Fuel the Immune System with Food

    * Protein
    * Veggies
    * Hydration
    * Purposely eat nuts and seeds high in zinc and mineral like pumpkin seeds and raw walnuts and almonds
    * Purposely eat foods high in Vit C…most veggies and fruit but especially organic bell peppers, citrus fruits and broccoli

    * The baths also help with this
    * Consider removing top offending foods like dairy and wheat temporarily to see if this reduces symptoms

    * Chiropractic and essential oils

    * Nervous system innervates the entire body – find a good DC in your area that works with families and kids and at first sign of something, get a adjustment – in fact consider getting a tune up each week.
    * Essential oils like clove, lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary (and thieves) have some anti microbial properties…so diffusing them or diluting them and applying to the bottom of the feet can support healthy immune function

    * Good ole fashion good hygiene

    * Washing hands!
    * If you must use a hand sanitizer, make sure it is triclosan free…possibly one with an alcohol or essential oil base

  • Aug 23rd 2017 – Coffee – Gaining Muscle - One Life Radio Podcast
    Today we talk with Ryan Lowery to discuss if coffee is a drug, and we talk with Daniel Tague about surpassing your genetics to gain more muscle!

    Ryan Lowery refers to this article on coffee/caffeine, below is an excerpt.

    "Like many drugs, the beneficial effects of coffee can wear off, and prolonged use cause like anxiety, insomnia, and exhaustion. However coffee can also enhance mood in depressed people, stimulates alertness, and increase mental performance and focus due to the increase in dopamine that occurs. Coffee contains hundreds of chemicals, including the powerful and well-known caffeine, an addictive chemical that is known to cause some negative health effects in people with heart disease, insomnia and anxiety. It also is rich in polyphenols which act as antioxidants that decrease inflammatory processes in the body.

    Here is a Q&A with Daniel Tague:

    1. How do you surpass your genetics to gain muscle and is it natural?

    * Intra-set stretching
    a. Cell swelling (stimulating a pumb  caused by maximal blood to the cell), muscle fiber growth (adding more protein layers on the same muscle cell)
    b. Mechanical tension inducing hyperpasia (new muscle cell growth, cell can actually divide and add brand new muscle fibers.) adding more muscle fibers to the cell
    c. Time under tension, aka volume (2-3 minutes)

    2. How do you do intra-set stretching?
    a. 8-10 reps, stretch for 20 to 30 sec., drop the weight (around 20%) then reps to failure, stretch 2-3 more times at the end of the last stretch do one more rep!
    b. Do this protocol at the end of the workout

    3. Is it for everyone?
    a. Must be in condition
    b. Working knowledge of how muscles work
    c. Be able to control the motion

  • Aug 22nd 2017 – Dealing with Loss – Grieving - One Life Radio Podcast
    Today we talk with Robin Perry Braun about how the eyes are the windows to the soul, and we talk to Dr. Richard Enander about how to deal with grief.

    Here are Robin's notes:

    What is the def of the soul?

    Mind, will, emotions

    How does looking at things affect our soul?

    * What we look at burns images in our brain and we attach meaning.

    * Often men look at porn once and it becomes a hook – especially children – deeply imprints

    * Trauma usually involves images burned on our brain

    * Even horror movies traumatize people

    * We lust and covet after things and can become obsessed with them –

    * this steals our peace and contentedness.
    * It can cause jealousy and competition and envy
    * The ad industry depends on lust and envy to sell products – it programs us because we stare at the images.

    * Law of expansion says whatever we FOCUS on we give power/energy to and it expands.

    * When we focus on what we don’t have we lose perspective and joy and peace.  Gratitude is connected to joy

    * When we look at beautiful, peaceful joyful things, we actually wire our brain and strengthen our pleasure and joy centers which give us the ability to better combat depression and negativity.
    * We do not need to fill our thoughts with negative information – it does not serve us to do so  - what we focus on will affect how our soul operates and whether we vibrate at a high frequency or low frequency.

    Here are notes from Dr. Richard Enander:

    * Separating depression and grief, as they can sometimes appear to be the same thing, people will often say “I feel depressed” after a loss

    * Previously in DSM-IV there was an exclusion to MDD for 2 months after grieving

    * Ex. Someone dies, you have 2 months to grieve, after that considered depressed

    * Not part of clinical dx, but anecdotally, hope is a compelling factor

    * Elisabeth Kublar Ross’s Five Stages for death and grief

    * Originally formulated to help people deal with their own death, then adapted for those grieving as well
    * Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance

    * Value in each step

    * Connecting with others and finding support is important

    * Grieving can be a learning experience, we can be made more aware of what is important in our lives and therein reach out to others
    * People seek to reconnect with what is important to them, may turn to religion, family, friends, or other social groups
