How do you handle rejection? Do you quit trying, thinking you aren’t good enough, intelligent enough, gifted enough? Or do you shrug it off quickly, not allowing it to shake your confidence next time? We’ve probably all had scenarios where we reacted both ways and in today’s episode, we discuss how we typically handle rejection and the methods we use to overcome.
You’ve likely seen Billy Gene on YouTube at some point with his out-of-the-box approach to marketing. In this episode, we take a look back at the struggles Billy had to endure to become the well-known personality he is today. It hasn’t always been easy and despite the confidence you see on camera today, he has had to eat his fair share of humble pie.
What kind of friend are you? Are you loyal through thick and thin? Or do you bail on the people you say you care about at the first sign of trouble? The message this week is simple: don’t be a half-ass friend.
It’s easy to see the “victim mentality” in people complaining about student loan debt or their life situation being the reason they aren’t where they want to be. But what about more subtle examples of the “victim mentality”? What about when you wonder to yourself about not having the “right” connections or not getting the promotion you thought you deserved? We’ve all played the victim card at some point.
The difference is in your reaction and what you do with the initial thoughts of victimhood. In this week’s episode, we discuss how we handle these thoughts and give ideas on how we can all overcome the victim mentality.
If you are a fan of the online giant Barstool Sports, you are familiar with Liz Gonzales. It would be easy to see where she is today and think “it must be nice” or life has always been great for her. But what you haven’t seen is the 2-bedroom house she grew up in on the southwest side of Fort Worth, TX with her immigrant mother and 10 other family members. What you haven’t seen is the tenacity, and fight, and consistently starting from the bottom without any connections throughout her career that led her to fame with Barstool. It’s easy to see success and think it just happens, but in today’s episode we are reminded everyone’s path is unique and some of us have to take the long road to get there.
When I was a kid playing baseball, I could not hit a curveball to save my life which led to me eventually quitting the sport. This memory gets me thinking about life and the importance of a “just keep swinging” mindset. Maybe your curveball is COVID, the loss of your job, or an unexpected diagnosis. It’s key in these moments not to quit but to just keep swinging. Keep developing your skills for the next job, keep focusing on aspects of your health you do have control over, keep enjoying time with your loved ones while they are still here. This week’s Feel-Good Friday message is simple, Just Keep Swinging…because the alternative really isn’t an option.
We were honored to be invited by Andy and Sal Frisella to St. Louis recently to tour the new 1st Phorm HQ and be on their podcast, RealAF. Words can’t describe what we saw and it got us thinking about setting standards. It’s clear, from the top down at 1st Phorm, there is a standard you must live up to if you want to be part of the team. This got us thinking about how setting the standard isn’t up to your boss or team leader, it’s really up to you. You take it upon yourself to set the standard. You be the leader, regardless of your rank or position on the team.

Growing up in the inner city, hope wasn’t something I saw much of. What most of us in the neighborhood saw as “hope” was the drug dealer down the street driving a new whip and having cash in his pocket. What I’ve come to realize over the years is the feeling of hope starts with me. Stop waiting for an outside force to provide you with hope. Why? Because hope comes from within.
You scroll through Instagram and what do you see? Big houses, fancy food and cars, beach vacations. “Stuff” is put on a pedestal and in front of us constantly. Now, there’s nothing wrong with desiring to attain these things, we’re after them too. The problem is when we think the accumulation of “stuff” is the end-all-be-all and is what is going to make us happy. Then, once we have it, we realize it didn’t fill the void we thought it would. Join us as we discuss our struggles with the desire of attaining “stuff” and what we truly believe is worth going after in this life.
