This episode looks at Luke 2:31, “that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples.” God has had the plan of salvation from the very beginning. Oh, what praise we can give him!

This episode looks at Luke 2:30, “for my eyes have seen your salvation.” Simeon can rest peacefully because he knows that he has seen God’s deliverance. May we desire to see God deliver us and others from captivity to the world, the flesh, and the devil, and may we also seek out freedom and liberation for physical captives as well.

This episode looks at Luke 2:29, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word.” The righteous person who has seen the Savior can now look at death as if there is no death. We can truly rest in peace.

This episode looks at Luke 2:28, “he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said.” Simeon gladly receives Christ in his arms and responds in praise and thanksgiving to God. May we learn to do the same.

This episode looks at Luke 2:27, “And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law.” Simeon walked in the Spirit, and we want the same. To do this, we must devote ourselves to Christ’s teaching and pray for the Spirit to come upon us.

This episode looks at Luke 2:26, “And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.” God kept his promise to Simeon, he kept his promise to Israel, and so we can trust him to keep all of his promises moving forward.

This episode looks at Luke 2:25, “Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel.” Simeon lived rightly before God, waited well for God’s comfort to come to a struggling people, and rejoiced rightly by the Spirit’s help when the consolation came. May we go and do likewise.

This episode looks at Luke 2:24, “and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Luke emphasizes that Mary and Joseph worship God according to his prescriptions for worship. May we learn, washed clean already by the blood of Christ, to do the same.

This episode looks at Luke 2:23, “(as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”). The ritual that is said (Exodus 13:2) is less significant than the one left unsaid (Numbers 18:15–16). Christ had no need of the redemption ritual because he is already set apart from sin and set apart for God’s purposes. Praise God for our sinless savior!

This episode looks at Luke 2:22, “And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple according to God’s law, and this sets up responses to Christ in the following passages. May we go to the right places to meet with God, and may we respond rightly to him when he shows up.
