  • Luke 1:70–God, The Story Always Happens How You Say It Will
This episode looks at Luke 1:70, “as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old.” The story always unfolds as God says it does. We praise him for how this makes the rest of his promises reliable, and we also trust him in the midst of life’s uncertainties because we know he is working.

  • Luke 1:69–God, We Praise You for Salvation
This episode looks at Luke 1:69, “and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.” God raised up a powerful one to reign as King and deliver his people from slavery to sin. Praise God for Jesus’s work of salvation.

  • Luke 1:68–God, You Visit and Redeem the Captive
This episode looks at Luke 1:68, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people.” Praise be to God for his redemption from our greatest captor—sin and the devil. Praise be to God that he still visits those in need and captivity today. May he do it again and again, for his glory we pray.

  • Luke 1:66-God, Give Us Anticipation for Great Things
This episode looks at Luke 1:66, “and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child be?” For the hand of the Lord was with him.” The people reflect on and anticipate great things in John. May we have eyes for God doing similarly great things in others around us.

  • Luke 1:65–God, Help Us to Fear and Speak When You Move
This episode looks at Luke 1:65, “And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea.” When God moves, people fear. When people fear, they speak. May this be true more and more of us each day, and may it be true of others in our lives as well.

  • Luke 1:64–God, May Your Blessing Prompt Us to Bless You
This episode looks at Luke 1:64, “And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.” We ask God to give us faith to believe his words, and also we ask that God would work miracles in and through us. In response to this, we ask God for hearts that will overflow in praise of his name.

  • Luke 1:63–God, Give Us Humility to Follow Your Plan
This episode looks at Luke 1:63, “And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they all wondered.” Zechariah does not override Elizabeth, and he instead confirms the name of their son. The people marvel at this instance of God working his will together. May we have fresh eyes of wonder from this passage, and may we also refuse bitterness when God works differently than we expect and instead humbly follow his will.

About One Verse at a Time

From the publisher's feed

A little bit each day! We look at the Bible one verse at a time (and still in context!) in hopes of training our mind, heart, and hands (actions) to glorify God in all things. This makes for a great companion in the morning to launch into further study or prayer.
