Late workers receive a full day’s wage, while those hired first resent the owner’s generosity. Jesus uses the vineyard to show that God’s grace is not earned, and no sinner can demand anything from Him. Yet His compassion meets needy people, and Christ gives forgiveness and restores them to God. Knowing Jesus early is not a burden to regret, but a privilege to treasure through every costly year of service.

Life can make God's goodness hard to trust when faithful people suffer and those who reject Him prosper. Psalm 73 follows Asaph from slipping doubt into worship, where God's people and truth restore his perspective. His circumstances do not change. He sees that life apart from God ends in ruin, while God remains his refuge and holds him. Jesus was forsaken on the cross so doubting believers can know that God will never let them go.

Being the underdog feels romantic only after the struggle ends. Jesus calls His suffering disciples blessed because God's kingdom belongs to them, even while mourning and persecution continue. Happiness cannot be caught by chasing it; it comes as people seek God's kingdom, practise mercy, make peace, and hunger for what is right. Jesus' death and resurrection make renewed hearts possible and guarantee God's promised renewal, so present pain can be met with patient trust.

Moses climbs a mountain knowing he will see the promised land but never enter it. His sin has earthly consequences, yet God’s judgement does not end their close relationship. God lets His humble servant see Israel’s destination, giving him peace before death, then buries him. Moses said God would raise another prophet, and Jesus fulfils that hope. Unlike Moses, Jesus rises from death and leads His people out of sin and death into God’s kingdom.

Moses lets anger push God's words from his mind, then strikes the rock instead of speaking to it. His disobedience grows from unbelief and publicly fails to honour God as holy, so he loses the privilege of leading Israel into the promised land. Forgiveness does not erase every earthly consequence. Yet repentance restores fellowship with God, and Jesus secures both forgiveness and renewal for His people, who cannot be removed from God's love.

Modern societies often treat right and wrong as values that change with the times. God’s law instead reflects His unchanging character and showed Israel how to live with justice, truth, healthy relationships and care for vulnerable people. Israel was to obey as a holy nation, making God known through a life shaped by His commands, yet no one keeps them perfectly. Jesus embodied God’s law, became the final sacrifice for sin, and brings righteousness to everyone who believes. The law guides life with God but never replaces Him.

Trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the sea, Israel panics and longs for the slavery it once escaped. God uses this desperate place to break old habits, turn His people towards Him, and display His saving power. He opens the sea, leads Israel across dry ground, and defeats the army pursuing them. Some impossible moments require quiet trust, while clear commands require obedient action. Jesus brings the greater rescue by bearing sin’s punishment and winning the battle sinners could never win.

Pharaoh keeps resisting God, even as signs and warnings increasingly convince his magicians, officials, and other Egyptians that God is at work. He first hardens his own heart; later, God hardens it, leaving Pharaoh guilty while carrying out His rescue of Israel. God's judgement cannot be mocked forever. Jesus bears the punishment sinners deserve and exchanges their sin for His righteousness. Repentant sinners receive forgiveness, peace, and adoption into God's family as His loved sons and daughters.

Moses obeys God, but Israel’s slavery becomes even harsher. What looks like a collapsing rescue exposes Pharaoh’s cruelty and sets his false claim to power against Yahweh, the God who hears and rescues. Hard circumstances can strip away confidence in human understanding and teach people to depend patiently on God. God repeats His name and promises to bring His people out, so waiting does not mean doing nothing. People keep obeying while hope rests in His control and in eternal life won through Jesus Christ.

Moses hears a clear command from God, yet keeps finding reasons someone else should go. He fears lacking answers, respect and speaking ability. God answers each excuse with His own name, power and promised help, but Moses’ final refusal angers Him and brings Aaron into the task. God’s direction must be tested by the Bible and wise counsel, then met with confidence in His power and willing obedience, not another excuse.
