Paul reaches Rome in chains, yet his rented house becomes a place where visitors hear about God's kingdom and Jesus Christ. The gospel is not chained. Jesus gives the whole church a shared task, carrying His unchanging message of rescue and living hope across generations. Acts ends without settling Paul's future, but its open ending points to witness continuing through God's people. God's people can approach neighbours with confidence because salvation rests on Christ's death and resurrection, not their skill.

Fear makes people retreat when pain or rejection returns. After earlier beatings and fresh abuse in Corinth, Paul leaves the synagogue, but Jesus tells him not to fear or stop speaking. Jesus promises that He is with Paul and has many people in the city. Paul therefore stays for a year and a half, teaching God’s word. Christians can keep sharing the comforting news that Jesus died for sinners, supported by God’s people and assured that He is with them.

Elijah once asked God to let him die, convinced that his work had failed. God said no and later led him past faithful prophets, showing that his service had borne fruit and that his servant Elisha would continue it. Elijah’s work ended in God’s time, not his own. Until God takes His servants home, they must remain faithful to their calling. Like Elijah, Jesus was sent into a rebellious world, displaying God’s patient mercy and calling sinners back to Him.

Desperate moments expose what people trust most. After a serious fall, King Ahaziah seeks an answer from the Philistine god Baalzebub rather than Israel's living God, and God's judgement comes true. Idolatry still turns good gifts into ruling desires that control people and fuel other sins. Its power breaks only as people turn from those rival loves, rest in Jesus' work on the cross, and set their deepest affection on Him.

Ahab wants Naboth’s vineyard, Jezebel arranges Naboth’s murder, and Ahab does nothing to stop her. Their unchecked power seems to place them beyond justice, but it does not. God’s patience ends, even after repeated warnings, and the deaths He foretold show that His promises cannot fail. That same faithfulness grounds hope for guilty people. Jesus bears their punishment, so they can recognise their sin, turn to Him, and trust His promised forgiveness.

Elijah runs into the wilderness, exhausted and afraid, and asks God to let him die. His despair follows a great victory, years of pressure and a self-pitying belief that he stands alone. God does not shame him. He gives Elijah food and sleep, then meets him in a gentle whisper. God corrects his distorted view, tells him 7,000 remain faithful, and sends him back with work to do and Elisha beside him.

Death can make justice and self-sacrifice seem destined to disappear. Yet Jesus' guarded tomb stood empty, and the women met Him alive. The resurrection changes everything. It confirms that Jesus defeated sin and death, that His work on the cross succeeded, and that God has begun making all things new. Because Jesus holds all authority, people can enter His kingdom and trust that present suffering will not have the final word.

The words Jesus died for us are familiar, but the cross asks what they truly mean. As darkness covers Jerusalem, Jesus cries that God has forsaken Him, showing that He bears more than physical pain. Humanity deserves separation from God for rejecting His good ways, yet Christ takes that curse and buys back all who believe. The cross does not leave sin in control. Jesus gives life with God, breaks pride and self-centredness, and assures fearful hearts that His sacrificial love has the final word.

Israel stands silent between the Lord and Baal, unwilling to choose whom to follow. On Mount Carmel, Baal’s prophets cry out all day, but no one answers. God answers Elijah’s simple prayer with fire on a soaked altar, and the people confess that the Lord is God. God had given them three drought-stricken years to turn back, because His purpose was repentance rather than spectacle. Those who make Him known can trust His strength rather than their own ability.

When a widow’s only son dies, grief drives her to blame Elijah and fear that God is condemning her. Elijah carries the boy upstairs, brings his bewilderment to God, and asks Him to return the boy to life without any earlier example. God hears him. The boy’s restored life confirms God’s word and brings a Phoenician woman to faith. Suffering is not always punishment for a particular sin, yet it never lies outside God’s purpose.
