Cory’s main business is GiHive, the standard product for the company is Jiu Jitsu gis (a gi is the “uniform” or kimono worn in the growing global sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a sport/business that has experienced exponential growth.
Cory adjusts his inventory to match his environment. For example, when he is at a big jiu jitsu tournament as a vendor, he stocks more t-shirts and toques, as that is a more spontaneous purchase than a go which requires time and research.
A good takeaway to the above example is when running a business, it is good to adjust to your customer’s wants.
Another tip from Cory when starting a business or a venture, is to do your research. Run your ideas through people for feedback. He also shares another tip, which is to be prepared to wear many hats. This meaning, in the beginning of your journey you are in charge of everything from sales to human resources.
Cory competes in the sport (jiu jitsu) that his company GiHive supplies. this is a great advantage as Cory’s work is his passion sport.
Little growth, 1% at a time leads to big growth. Cory applies this principle to both business and sport.
We celebrate the “magical” 27th podcast by sharing Cory’s want of setting up a mastermind group. I step out of my comfort zone and offer to help with it.
