Ron has a book that he wrote this year to help the small business owner. The book is available on Amazon: Concepts and Strategy for a SR&ED Practitioner: A primer to the Canada Revenue Agency’s Scientific Research and Experimental Development.

Ron shares with us examples of what qualifies and what doesn’t qualify for a SR&ED claim.

We learn the meaning of a CCPC (Canadian controlled Private Corporation). Most like if you are a business artist you may already be a CCPC.

If you have an idea or looking to claim, Ron explains the resource available from calling the government (CRA) for help, to books available, such as Ron’s.

Favourite Internet Resource: Evernote - it is great for tracking work on a claim. (I personally use evernote, it did take me a few months to clean up my paperwork).

Ryan shares with us his journey from President of a recycling company straight out of university to running Rancho Relaxo in Colombia, South America.

We hear about this special journey and property. New language, new job, new laws, and new culture. Raw entrepreneur culture is discussed and the differences between having a small business in Colombia versus Canada.

Ryan talks about the ease of doing business and less “red tape”. We talk about the important facts you should know when buying land in a foreign country. What we take for granted here in North America regarding ownership may be a lot different in another country. With danger comes adventure. Ryan takes us through a typical day at the hostel. We also learn about the beautiful and genuine people of Colombia.

What is your one thing that money can’t buy: Ryan gives us 3 things. He gives us a great visual of a morning walk to a waterfall and picking oranges and making fresh orange juice followed by a walk down to the beach and into the ocean.

It takes a little in the beginning, however, after a minute Dan opens up as only Dan Peters can. Once I mention vapour lounges, Dan is all go, describing the world of comedy. We learn the difference between doing an act in a bar with hecklers and the laid back environment of a vapour lounge. We go off on a side street on the politics of THC.

Vapour Central in Toronto is a place you can see Dan perform at. Vape on the Lake and Puff Dogs Vapour Lounge are a couple of other places where he performs.

His nickname came to him from his fellow, younger comedians in Hamilton.

Dan also mentions a couple of other Hamilton comedians who are doing well, Patrick Coppolino and Mayce Galoni.

We learn about the bullet spot in comedy acts.

Dan also comments that he has the least amount of things he has ever had and he is the happiest now.

His studio is in Hamilton, Canada, in an old factory. It is a must see, the site of future podcasts.

Kyle’s previous work was in the night club management business. I believe this helped mould his creative side for photography. He has not looked back since starting his journey.

“Each picture has a story.” Kyle loves to have the visual and also a compelling story to go with that visual.

You will have to listen to the podcast to hear his interesting “put it out there and take a chance” story with a win-win outcome.

Vulnerability is a key element in Kyle’s work. He discusses this theme more later.
