This morning at just after 930 AM Lake City Fire Company was dispatched to assist Fairview Fire and Rescue and Lake Shore Fire Department. Lake City responded with 579 and 578 to Avonia Beach. 578 made an amphibious launch at Avonia Beach and had launched their rescue boat within 20 minutes of the initial dispatch. 578 responded to the boat capsize with two souls on board. Chief 560 requested an additional boat to be added to the assignment and West Lake Fire Departments boat was added.504 and 518 responded to Walnut Creek Marina. Updated coordinates were provided to responders and 578 advised of being approximately 4-5 miles from the updated location. While enroute crews experienced 3-4 waves on Lake Erie. At around 1010 AM 578 arrived on scene to find one overturned boat with three individuals on top of the boat approximately nine and a half miles off from Walnut Creek Marina. The crew from 578 provided the three individuals PFDs.With one person underneath the boat Chief 560 requested the dive teams and for them to expedite to the scene to assist with the additional person trapped in the cuddy of the boat. Both Fuller Hose Company 1 and the Erie Fire Department Dive Team went enroute to Walnut Creek Marina where divers rendezvoused with boats prepared to make their way out. Crews were able to verify that the person inside of the hull was alert by communicating back through tapping. The three souls were transferred to 578 where 578 had a total of five souls on board 2 rescuers and 3 rescued souls. At around 1030 AM the US Coast Guards 25-foot boat arrived on scene. The US Coast Guard met with 578 and 578 advised of the status report. The US Coast Guard advised of a Coast Guard Helicopter was inbound with a rescue swimmer. At the scene the US Coast Guard continued to tap on the haul with return taps ensuring that the person was still conscious and alert. Lake Shores 518 arrived on scene a short time later.Lake Citys 568 responded with three souls including two divers. West Lakes 479 responded with five souls on board with two divers. At around 11 AM the Coast Guard Helicopter out of Detroit arrived on scene and deployed a rescue swimmer. The rescue swimmer contacted the vessel and proceeded to investigate the area. 479 arrived on scene and stood by and awaited orders on scene pending the outcome with the rescue swimmer. Soon after 479 was ordered to prepare to get scuba divers ready to enter the water. Moments later the rescue swimmer surfaced with the fourth victim and they were safely loaded onto the Coast Guard fast boat.No injuries were reported.
