Sacramento Police Apprehend Suspect Following Stolen Fire Department Vehicle PursuitSACRAMENTO CA PSN A suspect is in custody following a dramatic police chase involving a stolen Sacramento Fire Department vehicle on Sunday evening. The Sacramento Police Department reported that officers responded to the 4500 block of 24th Street at approximately 839 p.m. after receiving reports of a stolen Fire Department F150 pickup truck.Utilizing the assistance of a police helicopter officers quickly located the stolen vehicle near the intersection of R Street and 30th Street. When officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop the driver refused to yield leading to a high-speed pursuit through the city streets.During the chase officers employed spike strips and the Pursuit Immobilization Technique PIT maneuver to safely halt the vehicle. The stolen pickup truck was ultimately disabled near Calvados Avenue and Fairfield Street.Despite the vehicle being immobilized the suspect identified as 32-year-old Desi Sanchez of Sacramento refused to comply with officers commands and remained inside the truck. In response officers deployed less-lethal pepper balls into the vehicle which prompted Sanchez to exit. He was then taken into custody without further incident.Sanchez is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail facing charges related to the stolen vehicle and the subsequent pursuit.The collaborative efforts between our ground units and the air support team were crucial in safely resolving this situation a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson stated.
