  • S3E3 Boundaries Without Guilt

I want to acknowledge that Setting boundaries can feel incredibly uncomfortable at first — especially if you're used to putting others first or avoiding conflict. You might worry that you're being selfish, letting people down, or risking relationships. That guilt is real, and it often shows up when you're finally choosing yourself in ways you haven’t before. But remember: feeling guilty doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong — it often just means you’re doing something new. And growth almost always comes with a little discomfort.

Today we are getting into the foundations of self care and self love. Throughout the season, we will delve into what self-love truly means and how to start cultivating it in your daily life, but today I really want to get into what other people don’t really talk about enough when we talk about self care.

This episode identifies a few barriers that may hinder your self care journey!

  • Self-Care: Physical part II

To recap, what the self-care wheel suggests eating healthy,

exercise, sex, taking a walk as activities for physical self-care. I would like to add community and group work out activities to this list given the benefits it has in motivation and consistency if you are one who has an issue with this like I do.

We know research says that exercise can improve your brain

health, help manage weight, reduce risk of disease, strengthen your muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.  this is motivation enough to those who need it but there are people like me who need a little bit more of a push.

  • Self-Care - Go see a doctor!

Here are some Physical self-care points to take away from

    this episode.

    -

Go to the doctors! Get your bloodwork done, have
your levels evaluated so that you can mitigate risk of any progressive health
issues. There are so many stories of people’s lives being saved from early
detection of a condition or disease.

    -

Avoidance makes the problem worse! Please if
something is not right do not suffer through it! See a professional.

  • Self-Care - Its Personal

The self-care wheel lists these activities as ways of

participating in self-care. Learning who you are, this could be through ancestry tests, and activities like self-reflections. In a previous pod episode, I mentioned doing a SWOT analysis on yourself, this is another way to learn who you are. Figuring out what you want in life is another activity on the self-care wheel. So is planning short and long term goals, making a vision
board, fostering friendships, going on dates, getting coffee with a friend. There are activities like getting out of debt, just relaxing, writing a poem or a book, spending time with your family, cooking out, and learning to play a guitar.

  • Self-Care - Your Mind

The self-care wheel reads that you can do the following to practice psychological self-care. Self-reflection, therapy, journaling, sensory engagement, like sound baths, or massages. Aromatherapy, going to a play and enjoying the arts.
Like Issa, I love a good positive affirmation. I actually use the reminders in my phone to send me nice messages throughout the day. One of them is “you are not a quitter, you are a finisher.” I see this message daily and it makes me smile.

  • Self Care: In Your Professional Life

Excerpt from this episode: " The more you answer calls and emails after hours and the more you compromise and stretch your boundaries, the greater the expectation it is for you to continue to do so. Reminds me of that saying that if you give an inch, they take a mile. I always like to say when it comes to work, you have to teach people how to treat you."
