  • 279 - Valentine's Day - Hot Mess Express

This story, which is 100% true, is taken from the Daily Beast article written by

    Justin Rohrlich

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-scorned-airman-katelyn-days-wild-plot-to-off-husband-tyler-day-for-insurance-cash?source=articles&via=rss

Airman 1st Class (E-3) Katelyn Lucille Day, 29 was sentenced to prison for 10 years for the attempted murder of her husband Tyler Day, 28 per the court filing https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21177521-acm-39962.

Katelyn and Tyler met in the spring of 2017 and were married that summer. After they got married, Katelyn had Tyler added as a dependent and took out a $100,000.00 life insurance policy on him through the military.

What Katelyn didn’t know when she married Tyler was, he was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend JM and expecting a child with her. Katelyn found all this out two weeks after marrying Tyler all while pregnant with his child.

At this time Katelyn and JM began to communicate over FB Messenger (The Group’s name was Hot Mess Express) about Tyler’s problems. There she vocalized her desire in wanting to kill Tyler.

Katelyn tried several avenues to kill Tyler.

However, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations was investigating this and got JM to help with the investigation. The Air Force had JM give Katelyn a bag of white substance she thought was fentanyl because she wanted to poison Tyler’s energy and workout drinks.

The Air Force got a warrant and searched Katelyn’s house and found the bag. She was arrested and is in jail waiting on her appeal.

This is another case where adultery, the military, and parenthood make for sad but true situations.

No one wins here. And as in other shows, I wonder if anyone in Katelyn’s unit or NCOs knew if she was having difficulties. If they did, did they care enough to help her get through this? I don’t know, and this is certainly not the Air Force’s fault. It is sad for her child who is an innocent victim.

You can ponder this tale of woe begotten love as you walk down the 50% off aisle in CVS and realize your love today isn’t worth as much as it is on February 13th. Echo 3 PDAWG sends

  • 277 - MOVE Program Part 2
Oscar Mike Radio 262 (https://oscarmikeradio.com/262-move/) on October 8th, I talked about my experience joining the Veterans Administration’s MOVE program.
I wanted to keep this as an ongoing series because as I move through getting back to full activity, managing this part of my health is very important.
I finished the program in the first week of January 2022. All I can simply say is that the four months in the program with other Veteran and the professionals from VA was overwhelmingly positive.
Being with other Veterans who were trying to do the same thing I was doing felt like I was part of the unit again. Listening to their challenges and victories, I came to realize that they weren’t that different from me.
I am now part of the MOVE Alumni program. I will be meeting once a week with other Veterans to stay on track with my goals. What compelled me to do this was the care I received from the MOVE Program professionals. Everyone from the dieticians, physical therapists, and psychologists, impressed upon me that they were committed to my success. This was helpful as I was trying to recover. I want to thank them for all their work on our behalf because they are right there with us even after we leave the program.
Looking forward to checking in with you all. I want to show that a healthy lifestyle is possible with commitment, effort, and support.
Go to https://www.move.va.gov/ to get started. There are many tools and resources to help you live your best life. Be the change you want and MOVE!

  • 276 – Otis McGregor – Tribe and Purpose
Starting a business or company can be difficult on a good day, and even more so when things are going poorly. Sometimes you need an outside party to look at what you and your company are doing to determine what is keeping you from a path to success.
LTC Otis McGregor, US Army Special Forces Retired, and his son Camden work to build your tribe of people who you can depend on and understand your purpose. Otis draws on his years of leadership in the military to create a pathway to success with the individual and the larger team, or tribe.
I learned a lot from our conversation. I used to believe in the saying that “It is lonely at the top.”. Otis explained why that can’t be my mindset if I want to be successful in my career or in my personal life.
You can find out more about how Tribe and Purpose can work for you and your company by going to https://www.tribe-purpose.com/ and asking for a free initial consultation.
Thank you for talking with me Sir and helping me expand my tribe.

  • 275 - Paul Freeman - The Legendary Hunters of Texas
Paul Freeman is a Navy Veteran who worked in VFA-201 Hunters Reserve Navy Squadron as a maintenance chief.
I got to meet Paul through TSP-The Scuttlebutt Podcast. Paul served with Richard Fleek and I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about this storied Naval Aviation Squadron.
I started off by reading the book that Paul wrote that chronicles the history of VF-201/VFA-201 from 1976 with the F-8s to being decommissioned in 2007. Paul talked about his experiences with the book and how he came to support the Gary Sinise Foundation with the proceeds from The Legendary Hunters of Texas. You can find it by using this link to Amazon: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asin=B071WBNMN7&preview=newtab&linkCode=kpe&ref_=cm_sw_r_kb_dp_TS75DD0SMZ07793MTEQX
In a way, VFA-201 is like other military units that are decommissioned. They are gone and sometimes can be forgotten. Paul wrote this book so that wouldn’t happen. Thank again to every Hunter who was Legendary

  • 274 - Brian Gibson - Project DieHard 22
When you talk with Brian Gibson the first thing that stands out is the voice. It is a voice that has known sorry but is still strong. The strength that is needed to stand up Forward Operating Base Rush in Paducah, KY as part of Project Die Hard 22.
Brian states, “Having served this country for 26 years as a Soldier and Combat Medic, I lost more of my Brothers and Sisters to suicide when we got home than I did during our time deployed in combat. I wanted to bring awareness to Veteran Suicide, which led me to start Project Diehard.”
The Team is working to raise the money needed to finish building Forward Operating Base Rush. FOB Rush will be a place where Veterans can get the help and services they need for up to a year.
Brian’s vision is a bold one. FOB Rush is in the process of being built out and your help can bring that goal closer to becoming a reality.
Go to https://projectdiehard.org/ to learn more. Thank you for talking with me Brian, One is Too Many

  • 273 - Thomas Kilgannon - Freedom Allaince
I am continually reminded that Veterans Service Organizations are all different. As I was talking with Thomas Kilgannon who is the president of the Freedom Alliance, I thought that the theme for 2022 should be that the need is still there.
Freedom works to serve Veterans who have been wounded with a focus on the children of service members who have been killed serving our country.
Listening to how Freedom Alliance has supported these children, allowed me to see that this is a commitment to the child of a fallen servicemember. The work that is being done will be passed down for generations and demonstrates that these families are not forgotten.
You can go to https://freedomalliance.org/ to learn more. Thank you Tom for coming on and talking with me.

  • 271 - A Christmas Crossing
First of all, Merry Christmas!!!! I hope your holiday plans are going smoothly and that this finds you all well.
The Winter of 1776 was a bad time for the American Revolution. Stinging defeats and the British conquering Rhode Island put the revolution on its heels.
General George Washington had an idea to put the British on the defensive by organizing the crossing of the Delaware River on December 25th, 1776.
This isn't a log show by any means. I did want you to think about this though. Is the Christmas Crossing by General Washington and the American Revolutionaries the greatest American Christmas present ever? Ponder that as you are drinking your spiked eggnog, and raise your glass to some true American heroes.
Merry Christmas, safe travels during this holiday season!

  • 270 - Shane Cunningham - Veteran Podcast Awards
This is a follow-up to last week's show (269 - Travis Johnson - The NonProfit Architect) about the Veteran Podcast Awards.
Shane Cunningham served in the Marine Corps then left to pursue his passion which is designing and making things. Specifically, making things here in America.
Go to https://www.brokenjarhead.com/ and you can see a focus on products that are high quality, and 100% Made in the U.S.A. This is not by accident but a belief Shane has in supporting American business.
I liked the story of how an idea to bring attention to Veterans' podcasts gave birth to the Veteran Podcast Awards and the official Veteran's Podcast Day on October 5th.
When you are shopping for military-themed gifts you have a lot of options. Buying from a Veteran Owned Business that is focusing on American Made goods is always a win. While you are at it go to https://www.veteranpodcastawards.com/ and check the amazing Veterans Podcasts that Shane supports. Thanks for talking with me Shane, Semper Fidelis.

  • 269 - Travis Johnson - The NonProfit Architect
Travis Johnson is an Officer currently serving in the U.S. Navy. He doesn't let that slow him down as he is the host of The NonProfit Architect Podcast, runs the Veteran Podcast Network, does NonProfit work, and just hosted the first annual Veterans Podcast Awards. Travis is Oscar Mike!
Travis had asked me to be a part of his Veterans Podcast Network and then enter the Veterans Podcast Awards.
I wanted to talk with him and learn more about working in non-profits and how serving in the military can help.
Travis has a warm, engaging style but works when he is teaching about podcasting, having an abundance mindset, and how Veterans can grow together. I can't wait to have him back on after he retires from the Navy!
You can learn about The NonProft Architect Podcast, Travis, and the Veterans Podcast Network by going to this link - linktr.ee/nonprofitarchitect.
