After one of the most tumultuous awards seasons in recent memory, the Academy set our expectations mighty low. The lack of a host & a program that seemed to be pulled together at the last minute worried the hell out of us. The Academy gave many a mixed message, taking a radical stance one day & reversing course the next. We were left with one of the more puzzling precursor awards seasons in recent memory, and predicting the winners became a much more difficult task than in previous years. When you add some unprecedentedly low rated nominees, we braced for a long & as Bette Davis said, “bumpy night.”

So as we readied for the worst, we sighed with relief at the positives. There were some funny comedy bits, some fun musical numbers, and exciting upset winners. What we thought could be an overall disaster might have been avoided, if only the Academy could stick the landing. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and like many of the coulda / woulda / shoulda been great movies on the year, the disappointments of the night stuck out all the more.

We’re left with another Oscar Night rollercoaster with major highs & lows, but with plenty to analyze. Our loaded Oscar Week of 8 pods finally comes to a rousing conclusion with our Recap & Instant Reaction show as only MMO could do. It’s raw & it’s off the cuff & hot takes come at ya fast & furious.

Now that the big night has come and gone, here’s what you can expect from MMO post Oscar Week. We’ll have one more chance to discuss the fallout from the Oscars after some more introspection, and dare we say - sleep. That’ll come your way mid-week. Then we’ll take an early look ahead to next year’s release schedule & potential Oscar noms with our Way Too Early Predictions.

As we said, we hope our catalog plays long after any awards ceremony. We are a year round review / preview / interview & film appreciation podcast.
