With 87 new players, I think being in the “Wait and See” camp with Oklahoma State right now is completely fair. And, honestly, it's probably the most logical place to be, so that's a big part of what we get into in today's Practice Report.

🏈 Johnny Dickson III & Shaun Torgeson: Two offensive linemen we definitely haven't talked about enough on OState Daily, so we spend some time on both of them.

🏈 The biggest question marks: Which position groups have the most question marks, and which ones should you have confidence in even though you haven't seen them play for OSU, or maybe even at the P4 level yet?

🏈 Drew Mestemaker: This is a big one. The guy put up huge numbers at North Texas, but at what level will that translate to the Big 12? Why should we believe he's THAT guy for Oklahoma State, and is he getting so much "hype" that OSU fans will panic as soon as he makes one mistake?

🏈 Caleb Hawkins, Wyatt Young & the linebackers: We know how good they have been, but how good will they be at THIS level? We think these are all honest and fair questions, and we dive into them.

There's a lot of practice footage in this one, along with clips from Media Availability with the coordinators, so you can actually see some of what we're talking about.

To be totally transparent, there are some things that, even with almost no evidence at this level, I'm totally sold on, and some that I think fans should be in "wait and see" mode on. And with 87 new players, I don't think that's negative, nor do I think it's positive. I think that's exactly where we should be right now.

🔥This one was a LOT of fun.

I sat down with former Oklahoma State standout Chris Massey, and we got into some great stories from his time in Stillwater.

Massey was a Parade All-American coming out of high school and went on to become one of the most explosive return men in the country.

⚡ He led the nation in kickoff return average in 2001.

💥 He had 208 kickoff return yards against Texas Tech.

🚨 He took a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown against Texas.

And that's just part of the story.

We talked about how he ended up at Oklahoma State, playing for the Cowboys, some of the biggest moments of his career, and what it was really like playing in that era of Oklahoma State football.

🎥 **Sean Brophy Media Availability**

I know Eric Morris is going to be the guy calling the plays, but I don't think that means Sean Brophy is somebody Cowboy fans should overlook.

Actually, I think the opposite.

Brophy has been around Morris for a LONG time. Incarnate Word. Washington State. North Texas.

He knows what Morris wants to do, he knows how he wants his quarterbacks to play, and he has been around some REALLY good quarterbacks.

At North Texas, the passing offense finished **12th, 4th, and 2nd nationally** in passing yards per game during his three seasons there.

He coached quarterbacks who threw for more than 3,000 yards, and then last year helped Drew Mestemaker put together one of the best seasons in the country.

Mestemaker led the FBS in passing yards and passing yards per game, and Brophy was named **FootballScoop Quarterbacks Coach of the Year.**And then there's Cam Ward.

Brophy was part of the staff at Incarnate Word when Ward was there early in his career.

That's a pretty darn good résumé for a guy who is going to be working with Oklahoma State's quarterbacks.

And that's really what caught my attention talking to him.

He doesn't have to be the guy calling the plays to have a HUGE impact on what this offense becomes.

I had a chance to talk with Brophy today, and I think Cowboy fans are going to enjoy hearing what he has to say.

If you’re looking for a reason to be excited about what Drew Svoboda is bringing to Oklahoma State, just look at the track record.

Svoboda has spent 26 years coaching, including stops at Alabama, North Texas, Rice, and Memphis.

At Alabama, he helped lead special teams that ranked No. 1 nationally in points scored and produced three blocked punts, including two returned for touchdowns.

Then at North Texas, his special teams units were among the best in the country. In 2023, they ranked No. 1 in The American and No. 18 nationally in PFF's overall special teams grade, earning Svoboda a Frank Broyles Assistant Coach of the Year nomination.

And in 2025, his UNT special teams unit was the third-highest graded in the American while also ranking No. 8 nationally with two blocked punts.

But the thing that really stands out to me is that Svoboda isn't just a special teams coach. He's been a head coach, associate head coach, tight ends coach, and offensive coach, and he brings a TON of experience to this Oklahoma State staff.

Svoboda talked with the media, and it's easy to see why he's had so much success.

Even in answering questions that, surely, he's been asked 1000x, he's teaching.

Which means he's not just putting an answer in a can. He actually wants people to understand the concepts he's explaining.

And if you or I can "get it," imagine how easy it is for his players.

As a coach who spent 3 decades in the industry, I could listen to this guy explain the phonebook.

Had the chance to ask Coach Cassity some questions, and he's SUPER impressive. His conviction and belief in what he does will sell you on the spot. His confidence will be contagious, and it will attract competitive people.

The message is, do your 1/11. And if that happens, the defense functions at a HIGH level.

Another thing that sticks out, at least to me, and it's along the same lines, is how convicted he already is in exactly what he does.

And what is he so convicted about?

First, this defense is going to play aggressively. In fact, being aggressive is a mandate from Coach Morris, but it also matches perfectly with the principles and philosophies of Coach Cassity as well.

It's also going to be versatile. Multiple fronts, multiple coverages, anywhere from man to every-eyes-on-QB zone in the back.

So, then the question becomes, how do you get this many new players to understand the complexities of doing this many things?

He didn't hesitate to talk about how "bought in" each player is .

And while this defense will be VERY multiple, within that structure, it's a 1/11 approach. Every piece of that 11-man pie has to be simple enough for each player to understand, to the point where they don't overanalyze and can play fast.

That's one part, maybe the biggest part I'm excited about. When you can make the overall scheme very versatile and complex, but then make each player's individual responsibilities very straightforward and simple to understand, you get the best of all worlds.

That's the plan, and I can't wait to see it!

The head wrestling coach for the Cowboys joined the media for the first time this school year and talked about how the 5-for-5 rule has affected his decision-making on mat time. He was also asked about Jax Forrest, his performance last year, and the Summer he's had. He was also asked about the freshman-to-transfer-portal recruits, spoke about the potential of Dee Lockett, told us what makes Sergio Vega so good, what it will take to catch Penn State and win a National Title, and more.

Jerry Lawson is another super athletic defensive lineman for OSU, and he comes in at OVER 300 pounds as well. In fact, he carried the ball quite a bit back in High School and was an edge rusher, so he brings more versatility to the interior. With his size and athletic ability, he's gonna be GREAT at playing downhill in this defense that is gonna do a lot of THAT. So he's a perfect fit beyond just being VERY talented. Lawson is transferring in from Louisville and played at Abilene Christian in 2024. #GoPokes #OkState

Ashton Lepo is a 6'8" offensive tackle transferring in from Michigan State.The length is obvious.But what really stands out is how quick his feet are for a guy that big.That allows him to cover a LOT of ground in pass pro.And that can give this offense the ability to use wider splits, which can open up running lanes while also putting pass rushers farther away from the QB.Lepo has one year of eligibility left, making him a true “Win Now” addition.And that’s something we ALL want to see happen on the field.#GoPokes #OkState

There may not be a more “Stillwater” story on the Oklahoma State roster than Jakobe Sanders.'

Sanders is a homegrown product who grew up in Stillwater, now wears the Oklahoma State jersey, and is carrying on a family legacy.

His grandfather is Robert Turner — yes, THAT Robert Turner — who played fullback at OSU in the 1970s before going on to play in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.

And Sanders isn't just a talented offensive lineman.He's a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and maintained a 4.0 GPA in high school.

He was also coached at Stillwater High School by Charlie Johnson, a former Cowboy offensive lineman who played nine seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts. Johnson is now Stillwater's offensive line coach.

So Sanders has the bloodlines, the coaching, the intelligence, the size, and now the experience.

He got his first collegiate start against Cincinnati on Homecoming last season, and by the end of 2025, he had started the final six games of the season.

Now he's expanding his game even further, taking reps at center and giving the Cowboys another versatile piece along the offensive line.

He's a local kid. He's a legacy. And he promises to be a VERY important piece of the 2026 Oklahoma State offensive line.

I talked with Jakobe Sanders about all of it in our Media Day interview.
