For Megan Haines and her family, going to Oklahoma State for college is just what you do. She grew up watching the Cowboys on the gridiron and pitch with her parents, both alumni. The fifth-year forward knew Stillwater is where she wanted to be, even if soccer wasn’t in the picture. Haines’ parents encouraged her to walk on to the team. There wasn’t an official tryout. Instead, she had the preseason to earn her spot. She saw limited playing time her freshman year that slowly increased the following seasons. Then, she got the news—she was being put on scholarship. Haines came to Stillwater with no plans to play college soccer. Now, she’s on scholarship, a starter and team captain. Something she never could’ve dreamed.
