Losing is supposed to hurt. That was the simple message Coach Kenny Gajewski left his team after they were eliminated from the 2023 Women’s College World Series. The season didn’t end with a National Championship. However, it wasn’t as heartbreaking of an ending as 2022—an ending that took Gajewski a year to get over. Less than a week after the Cowgirls’ season ended, Gajewski was already out recruiting for next year. He acknowledges he’s tired but understands it's required if he wants to do more than settle for a fifth-straight WCWS appearance. Gajewski doesn’t want to settle. He wants to win it all.

It was a big weekend on the links for former Cowboys golfers as Wyndham Clark won his first major and four others—including Rickie Fowler—finished in the top 43. OSU golf sports information director Ryan Cameron drops by the show to talk with Deion Imade and Clint Chelf about the recent run of wins for the former Pokes.

Oklahoma State was the only school to offer Robin Ventura a scholarship coming out of high school. Think about that. Obviously, his decision to play for the Cowboys was a no brainer. But it wasn’t until his junior year in Stillwater that he realized he might actually have a future in baseball. He won an Olympic Gold with Team USA in the ’88 games. The White Sox took him 10th overall in the MLB Draft. In 1989, he made his Major League debut. Ventura played 16 years of professional baseball. He was a 2-time All-Star and won six gold gloves. He's been an MLB manager, and has gone from playing with his idols to becoming an idol for so many. His secret to having a successful career? Keep a level head and just play ball.

In this week's episode of the Old Pokes Show, Clint Chelf and Deion Imade are breaking down OSU's football win total and looking ahead to the US Open and all the Cowboys participating.

Riley Taylor’s first love was football. He was an All- District quarterback and All-State punter in high school. Taylor also exceled at baseball, leading his team to a State Title as a senior. He was recruited by division one programs for both sports. Just not by Oklahoma State. Taylor walked on as a pitcher for Cowboys in 2019. He did not see game action until May 28, 2023. Four seasons sitting in the bullpen, and he finally got the call. Taylor was the only pitcher during his first four seasons to never see game action. He admits there were plenty of times over the years where he questioned if he was good enough to play DI ball. However, he never once thought about leaving Oklahoma State.

Lexi Kilfoyl’s love of softball didn’t come naturally. She had to be persuaded not to quit after her first year playing. Without that push from her parents, Kilfoyl never would have become a high school varsity pitcher as a seventh grader. Or a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year. She played her first three seasons of college softball for Alabama, and in her junior year, she played through a hip injury that left her questioning a future in Tuscaloosa. Kilfoyl entered the transfer portal, Kilfoyl found her new home at Oklahoma State and rediscovered her love of the game.

Oklahoma State softball is back in the Women's College World Series for the fourth-straight year. Meanwhile, the baseball team is hosting a regional for the second straight year. It's all good news in Stillwater for the Cowboys and Cowgirls, and Deion Imade and Clint Chelf break it all down in this week's episode of the Old Pokes Show. Then, Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Tyler Wulfert joins the show to talk about his road to OSU and this weekend's Stillwater Regional. Plus, the guys name their Old Pokes Players of the Week.

Chase Adkison’s freshman year of baseball at Boise State lasted 15 games. Like all sports in the spring of 2020, it was shut down by Covid. His sophomore year almost didn’t happen. Adkison’s older brother, Tyler, posted on social media saying Chase needed a place to play. That post caught the attention of coaches at San Jacinto College in Houston. After his first game in the fall, bigger programs started showing interest. Adkison transferred to Oklahoma State the following season, where he’s made an immediate impact on both offense and defense. He has few goals to accomplish before he leaves Stillwater—take care of his pitchers, help lead the team to Omaha, and get a Robin Ventura glove to add to his growing collection.
