Members of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) have the democratic right to select a candidate for the seat of Council Member, International Affairs – World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). One of the candidates for this seat is Dr Kee Hean Lim. With the ballots closing on Friday, 24th July 2020 at 12noon, I took an opportunity to have a conversation with Dr Lim about what the position involves and the reasons behind him deciding to stand for it.

There are two other candidates (Majorie Gardner & Dr Yvonne Thomas) going for the position. Below is a link to all thier manifesto statements.

The way we respond to people around us on all levels is very important in building relationships. Understanding of attachment styles and strategies when working with people may help us develop better responses to during our practice. I was very fortunate to be joined by Lydia Guthrie (Twitter: @Lydia_Guthrie), a trainer in attachment and relationship styles who is also training to be a systemic psychotherapist

The link below is a book (Raising Parents: Attachment, Representation, and Treatment by Patricia M. Crittenden) recommendation by Lydia if you would like to find out more about attachment styles.

    • Episode 11 - L . O . V . E - Lets Talk About Race #BLACKLIVESMATTER

We are in the midst of racial tension across the world due the death of a Black man called George Floyd. This has raised many questions around race and further given voice to the Black Lives Matter movement. I wanted to get the thoughts and feelings from fellow Black and People of Colour Occupational Therapists to begin the discussion about how we can increase diversity in the profession. I would like to say a BIG THANK you to all the OTs who shared thier views. If you would like to read the article pointed out by Mish (Relational Activism), please find the link below. If you would like to continue the conversation online, please tag me @OT_Chill on Twitter or "OTandChill" on instagram.

      https://ssir.org/articles/entry/becoming_unstuck_with_relational_activism

I am hoping to organise a Zoom meeting of black and people of colour Occupational Therapists to gather some ideas about how we can talk about race within the profession, increase representation and make suggestions to the RCOT to hopefully take forward. If would like to join this meeting, please drop me a DM via Twitter or Instagram (handles above) or email me at [email protected].
