We're back for the second half of our anti-suffrage chapter. This episode wraps up all the reasons your female genitals disqualify you from the ballot box, and then we take a peek into the women of anti-suffrage themselves. After we travel back in time to wag our fingers at our misguided progenitors, we process the lessons we take away from this part of our white woman history.

There’s a lot of dirt when we start looking into the history of women and voting in the United States. Before we look at the problems with the pro-women’s suffrage community and how they excluded minority groups, we’re going back to the women who were against getting the vote even for themselves. Embedded in their logic are deep connections to whiteness and the exclusion of anyone or anything that was outside the God-ordained image, in their view, of (white) womanhood. We’re starting part 1 with a deep dive into anti-suffrage ideology and we’ll continue next time by wrapping up that ideology and talk about some of the individual women involved in anti-suffrage.

An intro to our new podcast! We are two old friends who have spent the past four years lamenting to each other about current politics and how in the hell we got to this place as a country. Then, one day, Katy had the brilliant idea of doing a podcast to discuss one of our favorite topics to bitch about: white women! Caveat: we are white women. But we are also horrified by how many of our fellow white women have behaved in the Trump era. And then we realized: we've been behaving this way forever. Join us for a podcast that looks at how our people have been making a mess with regards to race and politics and social issues and hopefully to take a look at what we can do to start being better.
