Our Foundations Podcast

This isn't a summary of 1984 or even on the general parallels of today's world. This is a look specifically at how 1984 and technocracy compare. Today's example is our current burgeoning technocracy, Big Tech, our general technological society, "the system", etc.  These are explored through the lens of a few specific examples out of 1984 the book.

Machiavelli's The Prince is focused on power and control for a ruler. The concepts and insights made are very potent when applied to a modern technocracy. This is what I do in this episode and there are many overlaps with current happenings in government, Big Tech, and other sectors.

This episode begins a short series on frameworks for viewing and understanding the coming technocracy by using allusions, mostly to well known books. This includes Machiavelli's The Prince, Bentham's Panopticon, Orwell's 1984, Plato's Republic, Huxley's Brave New World, and Asimov's Foundation among others. The second half of the episode uses the same framework to assess various strategies for pursuing more freedom in our society. This includes local politics, activism, freedom cells, mutual assistance groups, PMAs, legal loopholes, and much more.

There was more to cover related to scientism and more to introduce on the subject of technocracy. For Scientism, it is mostly the issue of the is-ought problem. Science provides knowledge but Scientism claims to provide wisdom through determining an ought from the is of scientific discovery. I also read many quotes to bring us into the concept of technocracy. These come from presidents, authors, and political influencers through the years and tie together much of what I've been covering in regards to secular religion, technocracy, and the immaterial nature of modern political and social change.

The writings of William Henry Smyth are explored as I continue to delve into the roots of Scientism. He is reportedly the first to use the term technocracy and his writings give a lot of insight into the rise of the secular religion of scientism. It's a mix of sociology, philosophy, and historical patterns. After this, I get into the religion of Scientism itself. The aspects that define it as a religion are outlined and a lot of the connections between Scientism and the other secular religions are highlighted.

Scientism as a secular religion is introduced in this episode but it quickly turns back to the roots of the movement. This brings us to Plato's Republic and specifically the aspects of how Plato generates the first known model for what is now technocracy. This is the foundation for Scientism and includes aspects such as eugenics, indoctrination through education, class theory, rule by "experts", censorship, mass manipulation, and other unfortunately very timely and relevant topics.

This episode focuses on the second secular religion to be explored in this series- The Church of Woke. I then tie it to the other main secular religions and assess how they are entwined. The concept of the Dark Kingdom is used to look at how the Church of Woke fits with the macro goals of the Dark side of the Natural Order. I wrap up with applying the milieu of the original Church  under the Roman Empire and libertine Roman culture to the pattern of the Dark Kingdom and modern secular religions.

Secular religion is alive and well in today's world. Gone are the days of near universal acceptance of the gods but other structures have taken their place for the modern man. Secular religion is defined and the religion of Statism is explored. There are quotes, verses, and parallels to the original Church.

The Christian concept of discipleship is key to understanding how the early Church put their beliefs into action. It is also a concept that voluntaryists, agorists, and like minded groups should take note of. There are two components- both to be discipled and to disciple others. Both are based on relationships and both involve action. Strategy for which types of civil disobedience to partake in is also touched on. This is also drawn from the principles of the early Church, the role of suffering, the effect of martyrdom, moral superiority, and similar points.
