Sometimes challenges to our hope discourage us from continuing to try.  Sometimes they even interfere with our desire to find and do God's will.  

As we face these challenges to our hope, we must remember that the source of our challenges is not our Lord, rather it is Satan.   

In this episode I want to speak about three strategies Satan uses against us and how we can stand strong when challenged by him.

By the way, I made an error in one of my scripture references.  I stated Psalm 37:37.  I meant to say, Psalm 37:23-24.  The transcript is correct.  I aplogize for this mistake.

It is a wonderful thing when we discover the passion for our life.  So many times folks will flounder around looking for purpose and meaning in their life.  This is not so with Bill and Kathy Hardy.  They not only discovered their purpose and meaning in their life, they are living it every day.  

Bill and Kathy are part of a ministry called the "Gospel Sharing Ministries."  This ministry looks to help congregations develop the knowledge and skills to fulfill the mandate from our Lord to take the gospel to all.  But not just gaining that knowledge and skill, but how to put it into practice.  Bill uses the expression of getting into the game.  We also discuss how this ministry helps others discover, sustain, or regain hope, true hope, found in our Lord Jesus.

We've stated many times in the episodes of this podcast that all of us face challenges to our hope.  Some folks may perhaps be facing a significant challenge for the first time in their life.  Others have faced various challenges and have learned to deal with them as life moves on.  As we do face challenges and learn from them, we usually can't help but look around for others we can help with their challenge.

In this episode I am joined by a brother in Christ, friend, and fellow Sojourner, Chuck Basaldua.  Chuck is facing a challenge but as you listen to him you hear the quiet, deep, and strong faith he has because of his relationship with our Lord.  We discuss how that is the source of true and lasting hope.  You will hear how, as many of us have discovered, that the challenge is actually a gift.

The English language, and perhaps other languages as well has many words that have different meanings.  One such word is the word apologetics.  To many folks, the word suggests the idea of apologizing for something we’ve done wrong.  But this word has a much deeper meaning, especially in relation to looking to discover, sustain, or regain hope.

In this episode I am speaking with Eric Lyons.  Eric is the Executive Director of Apologetics Press located in Montgomery, Alabama.  Eric will speak to what the word apologetics means, why it is important, and how it supports true and lasting hope.  As you listen to Eric note the confident assurance he has in our Lord.  This is at the heart of true and lasting hope.

Whenever I’m speaking with someone who is facing challenges to their hope, that they are not alone.  We are together in our journey to hope.  Quite frequently there are those whose environment, situations in life, and their singular efforts can lead to challenges in their hope.

In this episode I’m speaking with Clayton Johnson, a gospel preacher for the Carbon Valley Church of Christ.  Clayton serves a small congregation in a relatively large area that has a lot of secular influence.  Because of this, the small congregation where he serves could easily feel that they are all alone.  But Clayton realizes they are not.  They have our Lord’s spirit working with them, they have each other, and they have the encouragement and support of many others as they show the grace, love, and compassion of our Lord to a community starving for our Lord.

In this episode I am speaking with a young man who was facing a lot in his life that could lead to hopelessness.  It may not have been conscious on his part, but this young man was a seeker.  One thing I know for certain is that the Holy Spirit will always bring the seeker and teacher together.  We may not realize it in the moment.  And we might not even realize it until much later.  But that is the way God works.

Tim Henry had a very troubling background.  His environment was not a normal one but for so many, it is a familiar story.  A broken family, physical and emotional abuse, no direction in life are ways he could be described.  But then he met Arthur.  A man serving God who recognized the potential Tim has for our Lord.  He mentored Tim and gave him direction and purpose by introducing him to our Lord. Then Holy Spirit took it from there.  I’m reminded of the Parable of the Sower.  Tim was fertile ground that allowed him to grow.

I invite you to listen to Tim’s story.  Listen to where he’s been and the direction he’s headed now.  Listen to his transition from possible hopelessness to hopefulness due to a teacher helping a seeker.

One of the blessings all of us share is to have wonderful friends who encourage and support us in our life.  Arthur and Sandy Barry have been friends with us since 2016 when we came to know them through an evangelistic effort we shared in Pennsylvania.

As we continue in our journey to hope, it becomes obvious that faith plays a major role in the direction and success in which we travel.  Faith and hope are intertwined and supportive of one another.  As our faith grows, so to does our hope.  And as our hope grows, so to does our faith.

In this episode, I look at faith as a matter of choice.  I will explore a bit about what hope is and then I will look at two examples related to faith.  One is a true example of faith that was gained, weakened, and restored.  The other is considered a non-example of faith.  This individual’s faith was misdirected and as a result, he lost his faith.  

I encourage you to listen to this presentation and make a wise choice regarding not only your faith, but also where you hope lies.

It's not unusual to feel alone and overwhelmed when life throws challenges at us.  We also may feel in these moments that these challenges pile on seeming to crush us by their number and weight.  It is in these moments that it is very important to remember that we are not alone.

I recently came across a poem by Amar Amarvani called, "The Hope Poem".  I want to share that with you along with another poem you probably know and might be able to quote.

We all have knowledge, skills, and experiences that we can use to help others discover, sustain, or regain hope.  We might not recognize these in ourselves, but they are there.  

In this episode I have a conversation with Don Moore, Assistant Executive Director for the Lads to Leaders organization.  We discuss what Lads to Leaders is and how it contributes to helping others challenged in their hope.

The Lads to Leaders and Leaderettes group is focused on helping young people develop knowledge, skills, and experiences in leadership while also helping them grow in their faith.  These experiences help form a foundation of faith from which they can build a lifetime of service to our Lord, His Kingdom, and others.
