A lot of us learn or think in some sort of pattern.  We find comfort in patterns to help us understand and live our life.  We can learn outside of a pattern, but it helps to have one.

 In this episode, I want to look at a pattern that will help us understand a bit about Christianity.  There are a lot of thoughts out there about what Christianity is.  Most have a pretty good idea, but some have no idea, and some have misconceptions about Christianity.  I want to look at three critical elements of Christianity in this episode to help us understand what Christianity is about.  I call them the three C's of Christianity.  We'll also look at how they work together to form a pattern to help us understand.

You've heard it expressed in some form or another that everything has a cost or that nothing is truly free.  This is applicable to true and lasting hope.  True and lasting hope is found only in our Lord Jesus Christ.  

The hope most people have is a vague form of wanting something to happen or not to happen.  There is nothing inherently wrong with this.  We all use the word hope in this form.  But that kind of hope is short lived and doesn't generally have a plan forward.  

The other kind of hope, the one we all long for, is true and lasting hope.  That has a plan.  It also has a cost.  It cost Jesus His life as He died for us on the cross.  

In this episode I discuss what that means to us as we seek true and lasting hope.  It is something we can have now.  It brings a change in our life as we grow in awareness of our hope and draw closer to our Lord.

It is my desire that you listen to this, especially if you are looking for true and lasting hope and the peace it brings.  If you do have that hope, then share it with others.

In this episode I want to look at a character known to many who traveled from hopeless to hopeful through his interaction with Jesus.  This man was willing to sacrifice his dignity to get a chance to see Jesus.  Of course, I'm talking about what is a favorite Bible story for many.  I'm talking about Zacchaeus.

Everyone of us have a past that has elements we are ashamed of, or regret.  Some have extreme situations from which they are seeking to grow out of.  Another point to note is that when something has become a part of who we are, it is not easy to change it.  It usually takes what is known as a significant emotional event.  

 In this episode I have a conversation with Aaron Anderson about such a journey to hope. Aaron is the director of the Home for Recovery and Restoration located in Winnsboro, Texas.  This incredible organization is committed to helping men that have been imprisoned for substance abuse to return to life.  For some, it is the first time in their life that they have hope.  While in the home, these men receive encouragement to maintain sobriety but more importantly, they hear the good news of true and lasting hope found only through Jesus Christ.

I encourage you to listen to Aaron's compelling story as a drug and alcohol abuser himself and how he made his journey to hope and how he is helping others in their journey.

Scripture, God's word is serious.  It communicates to us how God created us, how sin came into the world, and how He made the way back to Him possible through Jesus Christ.

Yet God also created us in His image with all the emotions we experience.  Among those is the ability to see humor in things.  And although scripture is serious, sometimes God uses forms of humor to help us understand His message and His will for us.

In this episode I have a conversation with my friend Phillip Treat.  Phillip is a minister for the Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Marshall, TX.  Philip has the ability to understand God's word and how to help us grow spiritually as we too come to understand and apply more of it.

One of the best ways to discover, sustain, or regain hope is to be there for others.  There are no individuals of greater importance than our caregivers who help take care of us as we face challenges in life.  Many caregivers don't expect to be in that role and find themselves with limited knowledge and resources.  
 
 My friend Judith Henry has written a wonderful book called, "The Dutiful Daughter's Guide to Caregiving."  She wrote this book from her heart and experiences as she was in the role of a caregiver for her parents.  She brings a wealth of practical and poignant content delivered with a touch of humor.  
 
 I highly recommend you read this excellent book and share it with someone who is facing this challenge in their life.

In this presentation I want to discuss briefly three gifts, wonderful gifts, powerful gifts, that fully equip us to serve our Lord and to help each other.  These three gifts form a holy triad:  Faith, Hope, and Love.

I want to briefly explain a bit about them but mostly, I want to focus on how they work together to strengthen and equip us for our journey to hope.

The most known passage that speaks to the three of these concepts is 1 Corinthians 13:13.

It is easy to feel fear when we are bombarded daily with such negative input.  We hear it from our news sources.  We hear is from our friends, co-workers, and even family.  It is not wonder then that fear can have such a presence in our life.  But we can break away from fear.  We can embrace fearlessness.  

In this episode I share some things I've learned about being fearless.  I don't cover everthing on the subject but I do point out how we can remove fearfullness and dwell in fearlessness.

Sometimes, even with our best intentions, what we offer someone isn't what they need.  What they need is to just "walk with me."

I came across this poem sometime back as I journeyed through cancer treatments.  I'm so very thankful for the many who did walk with me with abundant love.

One last thing, remember that none of us walk alone as we travel in our journey to hope.  Let's be there to walk with someone.

I have had the honor and pleasure to get to know and work with Feroze Baksh from the  Georgetown, Guyana area.  Feroze is an evangelist in that area helping to teach the gospel of Jesus and by that, to bring true and lasting hope to others.

Feroze faces many challenges in his work.  He shares with us his story of how he was converted to Christ and the persecution he faced from his family and others around him.  He made the journey from Islam to Christianity, and it cost him dearly.  But as the story unfolded, Feroze continued to learn and teach others.  Now he has a television program that reaches thousands each week with the message of hope.

He is a bit diffiicult to understand in some parts of the podcast due to his accent and the internet connection between the United States and Guyana, but you can't help but hear the conviction and hope in his voice.
