Imagine being brought before a judge for a crime that you are completely guilty of.  You know the law and know you must be punished.  You can only hope that the judge will show mercy.  

Such is the situation for a woman brought to Jesus for a crime that in that time was punishable by death.  She dared not hope for mercy.  Yet our Lord demonstrates his love and compassion as he grants this poor, hapless woman grace, mercy, and forgiveness.  He takes her from hopeless to hopeful.  

We'll also look at how this situation applies to us as we stand before our Judge with a contrite heart.

We've discussed in the past about how it sometimes takes courage to have hope.  I've discovered that it also takes patience to see hope truly realized.

Often we want something and we want it quickly.  When we are especially dealing with a challenge to our hope, we seek immediate relief.  We might even wonder if God is truly listening to us in these moments.  

In this episode I have a discussion with Raymond Elliott about patience and hope.  Raymond is a retired preacher of God's word with a career that expands decades.  He also served as an elder in the church by which he brought counsel and comfort to many.

I consider Raymond to be a mentor as well as friend.  He has guided me through my spiritual growth to help me as I seek to be a true and faithful servant to our Lord.  He's done this for many.

I think you'll enjoy listening to the wisdom and strong faith of this kind and wonderful man that many of us have come to love over the years.

Taking care of children is among the most noble and important activities in which we can be engaged.  Children offer so much to our lives.  A major thing they bring to us is hope.  At the same time, one of the most tragic things is a child whose hope is challenged.

In this episode, I'm speaking with Chris Moran, Director of the North Alabama Chrisian Children's Home in Florence, Alabama.  Chris and I talk about their mission and how they help children and their families discover, sustain, or perhaps regain hope.

This program is personal to me.  I was reared in an orphanage for seven years in the 1950's and 60's.  I understand and appreciate the North Alabama Christian Children's Home.

In this episode I am sharing an excerpt from my book, Journey to Hope.  I look at two seemingly unrelated events in the life of Christ where He heals two men of paralysis.  

I will talk to the similarities and differences in these two events and what we can learn from them.  We'll focus on the most important point in these two events and how that applies to us today.

We've held the position throughout all of our podcast episodes that true and lasting hope is found in our Lord Jesus Christ.  We learn about our Lord through Bible study.  But sometimes folks may feel that they don't know where to begin a Bible study or even how to study the Bible.  The World Bible School is a wonderful resource to help in this effort.

Sometimes life events happen that can be either good or bad but they may have prevented us from achieving what we want in life.  Perhaps a person is deep into a career and feel a change is needed.  Sadly, some may feel they have no direction to turn to in order to improve their life situation or restart from those life events.  This may lead to a sense of hopelessness.

It does not need to be that way.  Local community college throughout the United States offer a wide variety of skills to help folks start life, sustain career, or rediscover their passion.  This ties in directly with our intent to help folks discover, sustain, or rediscover hope.

In this episode I speak with Dr. Jimmy Hodges, President of Calhoun Community College in Decatur Alabama.  Dr. Hodges and I have been friends for many years.  I've seen him advance in his career with the community college system in Alabama.  But most of all I've seen him live his passion for helping folks discover, sustain, or regain hope throgh helping them learn and advance in careers.  

As you listen to this episode, listen for the excitement and passion in his voice.  He truly loves people and how he helps them through his current position.

When I teach folks about getting out of their selves and looking how they can help people as the best way to find and sustain hope, I also ask them to look at what is in their hands and think about how they can use that in the effort.  All of us have things we can do, talents we can use to help others in their journey to hope.  No where is this more evident than in the guest on this episode.  Our guest is gifted with the ability to interpret for the deaf and hard of hearing.

In this episode I interview Robert and Minnie Vickrey about how they help bring hope to the deaf and hard of hearing through this gift.  They not only interpret, they show the love and compassion of Christ to others in this often overlooked group.

Imagine going through a difficult cancer only to have it resurface again.  Just when you began to think you've defeated this evil disease, it comes back with a vengence, perhaps worse than before.

Such is the challenge to hope that my guest, Todd Tipton is facing.  But unlike some, rather than give in to the life threatening situation, Todd lives up to his faith and knowledge that he is not alone.  He has a wonderful support system with family and his church, but more importantly, he knows that through his relationship with our Lord Jesus, he has an eternal hope that cannot fade (1 Peter 1:3-5).  He knows that no matter what happens in this life, he has life eternal.

Please listen to Todd's faith and committment as he shares with us his second journey to hope as he battles metastatic colon cancer.  But also share with others who are facing a challenge to their hope.

When we hear that hospice has been called in to assist someone, we often think the person is at the end of their life, that there remains no more hope for living.  This is not always true.  Hospice does so much more for a person and his or her family.

Many times when we ask a child what they want to be when they grow up we hear heroic professions like firefighter, police officer, doctor, or nurse.  Well, in this conversation we talk with a former firefighter, Ted Huges.  Ted stated in his characteristically humble way that he doesn't consider himself a hero, but he is one for many, including the two young ladies he and his wife Janet adopted years ago.  Ted and Janet brought hope to their lives.  

Ted and I discuss what true courage is and how it takes courage to bring hope to others.  We also discuss an interesting insight into the event in scripture where Peter had the courage to get out of the boat and come to our Lord and an often overlooked but critical part of that event.
